Are there any other fighting game fans on the board? Which games/characters are your favorite? Do you play any currently?

I've played a decent amount of SF5 and still do sometimes but it never pulled me in enough to really dedicate the time to it. Strangely, I've always hated charge characters and grapplers but the character I ended up clicking with was Alex who is shit tier.Asaroth Larot wrote:I'm a pretty hardcore Street Fighter fan. I was playing Street Fighter 5 quite a bit but the lull period in Season 4 turned me temporarily off it. I'm sure I'll go back to it though.
One thing that really drives me nuts about the game though is the combo links seem SUUUUUUPER lenient. Think of a combo in say Third Strike which would be a quick *hit* *hit* *hit* *uppercut* or whatever. In SF5 it feels like *hit* (one one thousand) *hit* (two one thousand) and so on. It's bizarre.
You know I've never been a Smash fan at all but the new one has me considering picking up a Switch. Looks fun. I'm holding off to see if a Switch Pro is announced in the near future.Lately Ive been playing Smash Ultimate and am very happy with it.
Don't tell Smash fans that.Damien wrote:Wouldn't really class Smash as a fighting game
Tekken was always too slow and stiff for my taste but I picked up Tekken 7 on sale a while back and once I settled on one of the more agile characters (Law) I actually really enjoyed it. It's interesting how finding a character you jive with can change your whole perspective on a game.I'm more a Tekken person than anything else.
These days most of them have very in depth tutorials and matchmaking systems that should only pair you with people around your skill level. Much different then learning as you go and getting bodied by randos at the arcade back in the day.Saying that, I really can never be bothered to get good at any fight games
Oh yeah, which one was that? What character did you play?
PS: I have a ton of fite gams on steam. Anyone who wants to rumble feel free to add me.

The only DLC character I've gotten for Tekken 7 was Geese when I was first starting because I thought playing a 2D styled character might be more up my alley, but I didn't find him very fun. Zafina looks cool though I might pick her up. I'm always a sucker for a goth gf.
I don't think a new entry in the series is necessary if the current one is still incredibly popular and fun. Different company but I'd much rather see a new entry in Street Fighter because the current one has some pretty core issues, or better yet a new DARKSTALKERS.

Oh definitely. Their other game Street Fighter V took that to the extreme. Characters, costumes, stages, costume colors, titles, etc are all DLC. Technically you can buy them with in game currency but they nerfed that into oblivion so you're forced into the shop unless you want to spend 4000 hours grinding virtual fun bux for a single stage.
Yeah I don't like that. One of the main reasons I got into Tekken was the unlockables. Being able to double the initial character roster in the earlier games just by playing. New modes popping up that were just hidden on the disc.
It seems people don't stand for that nowadays though, let alone like it. When Smash Ultimate came out last year, i remember the internet being up in arms that characters needed to be unlocked one by one by playing the game. Guess what. When I unlocked the final character, my interest in the game dropped drastically.

Started experimenting with different characters now that I'm more used to the feel of Tekken and I've been having an absolute blast with Bryan Fury. He was actually one of the first characters I had tried out when I first got the game and I didn't care for him, but now that I've wrapped my head around Tekken a bit more he's really clicked for me. Nailing people with his moves is so satisfying. The main trouble I've had so far with him is opening people up after they've learned playing aggressive against Bryan is a bad idea, but I think I just need to get better at his mind games and mixups.
I bought Noctis and gave him a spin as well but wasn't really feeling it.

Yup. Also put me off that the weapon I needed to make my regular custom character was tied to a piece of day one DLC. I ended up buying it, then the season pass was on sale soon after. Begrudge paying twice, when I'd already bought Tira and 2B at full price. Kinda' put me further off the game. That and having two separate boring story modes instead of one decent one.
I haven't touched Tekken 7 in quite a while so I totally missed the Godlike Leroy era.
I'll probably main Faust in Strive but a lot of the characters have changed so much I'll have to give everyone another go to see if any that I didn't care for in Xrd click for me now. Hopefully my boys Slayer and/or Venom are in the first season pass.
