The only way I've died is from the sides coming at me. Can the things shooting at you damage you? It's pretty hard to play with a laptop touchpad though, so I die pretty quickly.
It seems like I can wait as long as I want to shoot with nothing happening, but the longer I wait, the bigger the blocks that appear once I start shooting.

If I had had the time I may have added an info screen with instructions.
So the game works like this: you can only die by crashing into the ice. Whenever you are hit, the ice grows. You can wait it out if you want but the goal is to get a high score, so you'd best get moving

Ah! I see, so that's how the ice grows. So even if it hasn't appeared yet, something is keeping track of its "growth" from the hits and that's why it's bigger when it does appear.

Anyway, I can't get a high score, because I'm no good at these things. Especially not with a laptop or a mouse even. If I could rotate with like the L and R buttons on a controller, I could probably do a bit better.
Just played the browser version. Seemed to work fine. The action is pretty slow though. Most of the time I'm waiting for enemies to appear. I played for about 10 minutes and only got hit once

Yeah, the browser version is fairly slow, probably even more so on a slower computer. Originally I didn't want to add a web version, but in the competition there are a lot of people who don't bother downloading a game, so I did it to get better exposure.
There's probably a memory leak somewhere that causes the game to slow down further as it progresses.
Definitely advisable to play the standalone version, that one should be pretty smooth.
got there! So bullets leave deadly blue junk when they don't hit a target. the more bullets you shoot the bigger the junk gets. junk slowly disappears.
or is it the higher the score the bigger the blue?
in ballin' when you play the ninjas i had the turret ai improve its aiming the higher your score is. when you're playing the turret i just increase the ninja appearance rate over time. in that mode adjusting appearance by score would have just meant using all the beginning time to dig a hole to make it a pain in the ass prior to lighting up the ninjas.

i had fun with this! neat concept.
Man I should have really explained this better in-game. So when you get hit, the ice grows. The game is infinite so if you avoid getting hit and rarely miss the baddies you are bound to get a good score.
Congratulations on cracking the boards. Glad you liked it.

What I like about it in retrospect is that the game seems to evoke all kinds of strategies. Maybe being unclear about the mechanics was a good thing after all.
