Yes there are variations on each of these. And probably cultural variations on naming too.

Vote and discuss.

Scrambled is the only way I can fully enjoy the whites as much as the yolks.

This is so contextual!

Soft poached are great if you're doing something with toast. You need some other kind of food to soak up the nice drippy yolks.

Medium poached works well with my mi goreng noodles.

Lazy? Scrambled. Trying to make an omelet? Scrambled. :p

Eating out and want a bunch of fancy fillings? Omelet. Yay it's not scrambled!

If I just want to do something simple I try to sunny side up at home, but always relent and do them "over easy" because I suck at cooking eggs apparently. :(

And let's not forget the "one eyed pirate" or whatever folks call it - bread with a cutout in which the egg is cooked.

...So in sum, mostly scrambled.

I'll generally eat any of the above, though I am a bit grossed out if the egg whites are undercooked.

I usually make myself sunny side up in a quite hot cast iron pan in olive oil. This makes the egg quite crispy but cooks fast enough that the yolk stays runny.

You raise a good point. :check

Also, I forgot DIPPY EGGS!! When we were kids my mom would soft boil the eggs and cut up bread into finger-like strips. You put the egg in an egg cup and take the top off and then dip the bread fingers into the dippy yolk. It was awesome! :ruroken

I like a well-soft-boiled egg for dipping, but soft boiling nicely is quite a challenge. If you underdo it, it's a disaster.

I like to aim for somewhere between soft and medium, but then often get the result of it being more cooked than I'd like (a universal cooking problem I have).

Edit: wait, no. I'm thinking of poaching. Oops! Boiling them is fairly precise isn't it? With timers and such?

Yeah I mean hard boiling is pretty easy. But soft boiling without having gross runny whites takes practice.

I have poached an egg once. :check

I have a friend who always ends up making scrabbled egg watery. That's gross and puts me off.

That person should be punished. Or at least taught to cook scrambled eggs properly.

Fuckin' how do you make them watery? Do you mean like undercooked? Or does he add something to it to make it runny?

And ah, yes. Cooking just enough is an artform.

I actually really like soy sauce mixed in with scrambled eggs for some reason. I have no idea why or when I started, but it's a thing.

It's salty, so it probably is indeed good.

I really recommend the crispy fried eggs. Don't be scared when the whites kind of explode and roil when you drop the eggs in the pan. That's a good thing. :check

I do often have fried crispy eggs just because I cook them right after pan frying bacon and don't want to waste the delicious bacon grease. It is indeed good. But I prefer softer eggs.

Same here. I used to do it on edges of things but I think flat surfaces are better.

My mother gently taps a knife around the circumference about a million times. This creates a very large number of small egg shell shards that can potentially fall into food.

I'm pretty sure I saw a cooking show tidbit thing about eggs and they said one smack on a flat surface is best. I suppose edges are okay too, but flat surfaces are more uniform, I imagine. A single smack and a break minimizes the number of tiny egg shell shards.

Of course, sometimes I find that they break a bit messily using this method, and the yolk gets cut up. But generally it's fine.

I generally find it drives fewer shards into the egg than an edge does.

Also, your mom's method sounds wack.

How about Creme Eggs. How do you eat yours? (that was the UK advertising campaign for them in the 90's).

With difficulty, and a large glass of milk. It's impossible not to be messy with those things.

How do you pickle eggs? I know it's a thing but I don't think I've ever encountered anyone that actually eats pickled eggs.

And then there's reminiscence of those documentaries about the chinese piss eggs.... :erm

I've never been tempted to try a pickled egg (despite most chip shops inexplicably having a jar of them behind the counter).
