Evangelion Platinum..hmm wtf? *MAJOR SPOILERS*

Ok I know this is been there done that, as most of you have finished the Eva series a LOOOONG time ago. I got more than half way done with it when it first came out, but for some reason or another I stopped.I noticed true Japanese translated subtitles (not dubbing) revealed alot more than the dubbing did, why did they deliberately cut out so many details? Afraid Americans would sue them for religious references? I have heard that they scrapped original endings and funding because of controversy that would happen?

Anyways my GF just got me the entire platinum collection, and we just finished watching the entire thing. WTF!!? Obviously the last "real" episode was the one in which he kills the 17th angel..but there are alot of details missing in those last few episodes that thank god they included in the Directors cut on the last Platnium Disc..but even thats not enough. I noticed there are two movies, both of which I always passed at blockbsuter but knew I couldn't have series spoiled until I finished it.(good thing too). If the following questions are explained in Death & Rebirth, End of Evangelion, then don't spoil it for me yet

I'm going to rent them tommorow if I can.

-For example, are Seele computers? Or are they Messengers of God?
-How come Last angel refers to humans as Lilim, or Lilith? Is Lilith god?
-Why did they send the last child (which was conviniently chosen and accepted to replace asuka) to attempt to access central dogma (are Seele angels?)
-What truly was Yui's freak accident (why was Gendo accused of killing her?)
-In a deleted cut scene, why is there an Embryo (adam) grafted on Ikari's hand?
-Why is unit two alter Ego of Adam?
-Is the Lance not really used for anything else?
-Rei is similar to 17th angel, so is she an angel? Apparaently it seems as though she has an AT field too (she's only one there besides shinji and 17 angel)
-He also says Ikari is just like them...so is Ikari and angel too?
-Is Seele using Eva, Nerv, and Angels as one big test scenario? Are angels real or are they just creations of man? (not the eva's)

It just seems that they were going somewhere REALLY crazy with the Eva series, and since I'm used to crazy stories (xenogears anyone?), I pretty much predicted everything right. For example, I predicted Rei was a clone, or created, I also predicted That yui was probably ingested by unit 1 (or whatever) and a myriad of other things. But in the end they never explain alot of things...

If you ask me, disgregard the last two episodes and think of End Of Evangelion as the end of the series.

Um...I think Seele wanted to initiate the third impact and instrumentality by merging kaoru (an angel) and Adam. Only Kaoru finds Lilim instead and loses it.

-What truly was Yui's freak accident (why was Gendo accused of killing her?)

The same thing that happened to Shinji. She got taken within Unit 1.

-In a deleted cut scene, why is there an Embryo (adam) grafted on Ikari's hand?

He's merged with it. All is revealed in End Of Evangelion.

-Why is unit two alter Ego of Adam?

Unit 2 was created from a clone of Adam.

-Is the Lance not really used for anything else?

You'll see...in End Of Evangelion (see the recurring theme?)

It's never established if it's murder or a suicide.

I saw all of Evangelion but, Death and Rebirth weren't subtitled, nor did they have End of Evangelion.
(I rented all of it from a local Japanese collectibles store)

So... I probably need to watch all of it again + End of Evangelion......

Thanks guys, I'm going to go rent End of Evangelion tommorow, so I'm not going to read the spoilers. Woops, I should probably change title.

And yes, I fully understand the psycho babble. Basically
[spoiler]Last two episodes consist of Shinji trying to figure out (through instrumentality project) what "self" and life is. It is a pretty accurate depiction of what alot of 14 year olds go through (I did at that age), the identitiy crisis, what he's worth and what makes up his image of "self." The experiencecs, and the way other people view you basically. If we were to be born, alone, without humans among us, without everything we have now, then what would "self" be? We would have no image, no basis on which to base who "we" are. Of course its pure psychological, and spouts the same bs over and over and over, which seems to be used to pass the time until episode is over.[/spoiler]

Good series though, I don't agree with people who think the ending was fitting though. They built up all these amazingly complex and intricate subjects and ideas, to have it end without anything being told/done and the psychobabble of one 14 year old who has already gone through similar psyco babble for half the series? So End of Evangelion DOES have the first half of movie right? Because I heard DeathandRebirth has 1st half of End. End does have that same first half as well too? (in other words, they aren't making me watch D&B do watch End right?)

What was the point of Death And Rebirth?

You'd be better off leaving it and just sticking with End Of Evangelion.

Edit: Let me put it this way, Death and Rebirth is a recap, then the first half of the movie.

End Of Evangelion is the first half of the movie (Again!) and then the concluding part.

Skip D&R, save some money.

Yeah, I think D&B is just a horribly rehashed re-cap of the series, with a bit of End's footage. But now I know to avoid D&B altogether, thanks. Should be going tommorrow. Damnit, now I'm impatient and want to finish series (since I was gyped of it tonight)!

Well I saw End of Eva finally...freaking crazy, great ending. Made me think alot, about all sorts of crazy shit. Its funny how my understanding of religious and philosophical things has progressed so far, just from the age of 12 to now. Most people it takes an entire lifetime.

Good imagery, similar to how the bible uses beautiful words and metaphors to talk of things that are rather unexplainable (in words), Evangelion does the same with imagery and animation. Of course that is what "art" is all about, and imagination in general. No person will see the same art the same eitherl.

Gotta respect Japanese animation and Video games, this (eva series) and Xenogears are my favorite of both worlds. I kept thinking, why do they keep talking about Lonliness and Sorrow? The whole point of Instrumentality project was to end it and merge everyone together...but not EVERYONE is lonely and sad (although we are all lost). And I realized in Japanese culture this is a bit more emphasized. The way the culture is among social interaction, you rarely see Japanese talk to eachother, or even look eachother in the eye, on the street, subways etc. While this exists in America, is definitely more so in japan. It seems that imagination and expression is limited in real life, so it is projected in art form. We think we "escape" through video games and moviesand such, imagine them.

I still have some questions (sorry)
-What exactly Ikari's intention? Wasn't it to Merge everyone together (him with Yui) as well? Even though Rei rebelled that still ended up happening? In that case, what was difference between Ikari's intentions and Seele's intentions?
-So Rei had Lilith's soul right? Lilith is god (theoretically) correct?
-So did Man create Adam?
-Lilith created humans?
-The Geofront was the original Home of Angels? Or lilith?

I also see the metaphor as how the "AT field" really is just the "barrier" or protection humans use to hide themselves from others and to escape attachment.

Gendo's plan was that he would essentially have what ended up being Shinji's role in Third Impact - he wanted to reunite with Yui permanently, and didn't care if he damned the world as long as he got what he wanted.

Yes, Rei is essentially the opposite of Evangelion Unit One. Rei is Lillith's soul in a clone of Yui Ikari, Eva 01 is Yui Ikari's soul in a body designed from Lillith's genetic material. Lillith is not God (at least certainly not the Judeochristian god) but is a supernaturally powerful being.

No, Adam had apparently been trapped at the South Pole since long before humanity came onto the scene.

Lilith created humans?

The storyline would seem to indicate that the protobiont soup from which all life developed would be from Lillith, a "source of life."

The Geofront is built on top of the Black Moon, a.k.a. Lillith's Egg, so it seems likely that Lillith was discovered there. One can infer that she crashed into Japan and Adam crashed into Antartica.

The Angels are not man-made, and predate man. Adam / Lillith are essentially aliens that crashed into Earth and gave rise to life on the planet, and NERV classifies them as the First and Second Angels. Humanity springs from Lillith's protobiont soup, the Angels from Adam's, and the pseudoscience technobabble genetics involved in the storyline indicates that Angel DNA is not vastly different than that of a human's (though obviously they're capable of making some pretty fucked up proteins to be able to do the things they do

Well, they don't really come out and say it, but given that NERV HQ is built on top of Lillith's Egg, one can infer they stumbled upon her and the lance of longinus sometime before trying to turn Adam into an embryo.

The SDSS essentially laid out prophecy (Nostradamus style) that told SEELE precisely what would happen with regards to Adam, the Angels et. al. SEELE used the knowledge in the scrolls to produce Evangelions and prepare to fight the Angels. The exact contents of the SDSS remain a vague mystery.

I heard the news back in 2006, about a remake of EVA called "Rebuild of Evangelion". Well, now I have the latest media (2 trailers actually) :

The remake consists of 4 movies :

- Movie 1 subtitled "YOU ARE (NOT) ALONE" comes out this september. It's 90 mins long apparently.

- Movie 2, also 90 mins long, comes out in january 2008.

- Movie 3 & 4, 2 x 45 mins, summer of 2008.

The first three movies will be an alternate retelling of the TV series (including many new scenes, settings, backgrounds, characters), and the fourth movie will be a completely new conclusion to the story.

I don't know if I can wait for the english dub... but then again, I want to. The first time I watched the EVA series was in 2000, and I watched it all in english... and frankly, the dub was very good for most characters.

Some may not agree with me on this, but I think that Amanda Winn Lee is far better than Megumi Hayashibara when it comes to voicing Rei Ayanami.
