The scene where the camera zoomed in on the cop riot helmet in the middle of the street came straight from the opening of RE3:Nemesis. Did anyone else pick that up?
I thought it was a pretty good movie. Cheesy, but good.
I liked the homage to RE Code: Veronica where
Alice drops the gun, then swings around and grabs it out of mid air.
Afterwards, I was like "Wasn't Claire Redfield suposed to do that?"
I wash my hands of any spoilers, since it's not my fault that spoiler tags haven't been implimented.
If Apocalypse taught me anything it's that a mutated, murder driven monster who tries to kill you really just cares about you and will help you out in the end.
Ok I finally saw it tonight. I thought it was pretty good for the first three quarters, aside from major directing issues, and then turned to shit for the last quarter.
Spoilers:
The movie turned to shit when they made Alice fight Nemesis one on one. It totally killed the momentum I thought and I hate that umbrella guy. He was a shit actor playing a totally un-believable character. I think both him and Nemesis should have been left out of the plot all together. At least they did a good job at making Nemesis look right.
Ok, as for the directing. Alexander Witt's first outing isn't looking so good for his career. I absolutely hated the camera work in this movie for most of the scenes. There were too many close ups duing fight scenes, to many quick cuts between shots, and I absolutely hate anyone who uses that cheap ass slow motion "effect" where everything turns blurry and you can't even tell what the fuck is happening. That's like something they do in TV shows with a low budget. Also, they went slightly overboard with the Umbrella Corp stuff. The best thing about Umbrella in the games is that you know almost nothing about them or who is behind it all. They are just this huge evil faceless corporation.
Ok the ending: Spoilers: I hated the ending, it was incredibly lame and served no purpose. I don't know if Alice is supposed to turn evil now or something but it was dumb. I would have rather they left you to believe Alice is dead, then show Jill and Carlos finding the mansion in the mountains and meeting up with Wesker or something. THAT would be a good cliff hanger. Then in the next movie you could have Alice show up out of nowhere and give the same explanation but have it be a total suprise. Of course movies these days suck at suprises.
Things I did like:
The running down the building scene was way cooler in the movie than in the trailer which made it look stupid.
Carlos kicked ass. The first scene with him where he jumps out of the helicopter was awesome.
Jill WAS Jill from the game. Pulled off the character perfectly right down to the way she walks while holding a gun. Very good stuff.
This time I actually jumped a few times unlike the first movie. The zombies seemed much more dangerous.
I liked the characters in this movie more than the first one.
The action scenes were really cool, but were kept from being really great due to poor directing. I really wish Anderson had directed this instead of Alien vs. Preditor.
Things I didn't like:
The directing
The overuse of the Umbrella logo
Nemesis
The Umbrella guy in a suit who was annoying
The last 1/4 of the movie.
The token black guy.
Obviously Anderson has only played RE3 and RE:Code Veronica since he ignored several plot points from RE:2. William Burkin created the t-virus, not Ashford. The Ashford familly was just deeply involved with Umbrella as we learn in Code Veronica.
Cool Stuff I noticed:
The little girl is the same girl that was the red queen in the first movie.
The reflection on the police helmet from RE3 intro
The helecopter shooting at Alice scene and the next few shots were ripped almost shot for shot from the Code Veronica intro.
The way the characters walked when holding guns intentionally is identical to the way it was in the games.
The sound effect of Nemesis walking was the same as the game. As well as the door creeking open.
Ooh, I just remembered how I was amused that the guy who plays Nicholai is none other than Zack Ward, the same guy who plays the stupid younger brother in the short-lived show, "Titus".
the 3rd child wrote:Milla has got the thickest fucking nipples on earth. It's frightening. It's like a big purple grape sitting on her boob. Her nipples probably make up 75% of her body weight. But yeah anyways, I'm going to go see this movie. I got really excited when I first saw stuff because they made Carlos look exactly like Chris Redfield, but alas I was mistaken.
I'm sadly in agreement with Garbo.
After looking her up on Google, her nipples are not bad at all.
And no, I will not see this movie. My only reason is that it was written by no-talent Paul W. S. Anderson, writer/director of most of our horrible big-budget movies these days (AVP, etc.).

I quite enjoyed it, but I'm with Grey Fox on most of this.
I found the last 1/4 of the movie to be pretty ridiculous, and up to that point it was actually pretty great and appealing. I just wish more of the actual RE story was used as opposed to a lot of made up stuff, even though this movie seems as though it's based on #3.
If anything I think the character of Jill actually helped make this movie a lot better. It was nice to see an actual main RE character inroduced, and to have it executed so perfectly was more than I expected.
Living in Toronto sorta ruined the atmosphere of the movie for me. It's hard to pretend that it's Raccoon City when you keep noticing every single Toronto landmark.

The Butterfly effect had some scenes shot at UBC. I freaked out at some serious parts because I was saying "I USED TO SIT RIGHT THERE!"

Yes, even though The Medallion had Claire Forlani in it.
It just tried way too hard to be a good movie, despite the fact that people just wanted a regular Jackie Chan action movie out of it. Too much forced humor, and the final fight scene will have you going WTF (in a bad way).
Every other Jackie Chan movie > The Tuxedo > The Medallion

Yeah I hate it when they film movies in Vancouver and use major landmarks it totally ruins it. Of course the worst use of Vancouver ever was Ballistic: Ecks vs. Sever when they didn't try to hide that it was Vancouver but changed certain buildings into other things, made RCMP cars black and yellow, showed a police station with a big TV screen and a 3D rotating RCMP logo (lol wtf). But that movie was just shit. The Sixth Day also comes to mind though, I think that's what it's called, the Arnold movie about clones? They turned the library into a cloning lab
But yeah, I guess Racoon City is in Canada, since they kept showing a big Bank of Montreal tower in the skyline.
i dont mind milla's nipples at all. nipples like that i can handle, its the huge pancake/dinner plate nipples, typically found on fat, large breasted women that i can't stand.

They might as well have named it "Jackie Chan's Excuse For an Irish Vacation"
Just saw this today. This whole "Alice" storyline is totally ruining both movies. If they had just stuck to Jill/Carlos/Nemesis and crew, this movie would have been amazing - but because of the story arc from the first movie they had to focus on other crap.
All of the scenes with the Nemesis were great, minus the ones where he "turns good". He was really well done and looked perfect to the game.
Is it sad that the most nostalgic part of the movie is the door opening sound in the church taken from the games?
It really wasn't a good movie - there were so many better directions they could have taken this.

lol I almost forgot about that, but I remember looking at Mariko when that happened and saying "HAHA YEAH! ZOMBIE CHILDREN!!~~WHOO!" and she ignored me.

I think anyone would ignore you if you said something like that in the middle of a movie Interrupting the atmosphere!

Yeah, when I think Resident Evil I think atmosphere.
I wish horror movies would actually use imagery to scare people and not just creepy fading music -> silence -> FUCKING LOUD ASS NOISES to scare you. I saw a preview for some other horror movie that at first reminded me of Bleach because it was about hateful deaths and what happens to souls etx, and it looked genuinely scary (especially when that guy was riding that elevator up with his head in his hands and the ghost kid kept getting closer on each floor).
Ethereal wrote:They pulled that "silent person sitting in a corner *get closer* OMG it's a zOmBiE!!1" thing like twice.
That was kind of annoying. I don't think they had a scene where they passed by a dead body, and then all of a sudden it got up slowly and was right behind him though.
The graveyard scene was a mess waiting to happen. Dead people are being re-animated! Let's go to the mourge to get ourselves a snack!

Haha yeah no shit, I was just talking to SK about that. "A killer virus is ressurecting the dead you say? Oh hold on let's stop to rest a bit in this graveyard. We'll be safe surrounded by corpses." I mean the whole movie was stupid but COME ON.
