Ongoing Anime Discussion (now with October 2004)

My thoughts on MoO ending:
Personally I thought it ended very well. I certainly have some quips about the pacing... the deaths of Coco and Toune were a bit too abrupt, and I thought they went overboard with the cowgirls. It was hilarious when you first saw it in 21, but the milking scene was just way too weird, and probably, yes, in bad taste... no pun intended. However, I thought the actual resolution was very good; instead of trying to fix everything up within the last minute, they were down-to-earth about it, and I liked that. I have to admit, the Bio Concerto stuff, Child Dragon's karaoke performance, and the initial incidence of the cowgirls had me laffing.

Pretty much the same opinion I had for the ending.
The ending could have used some work but I'm just grateful that it didn't end up as a dissapointment like many other Gainax endings. Despite leaving things a bit open ended the ending was done quite well.
I wasn't satisfied with the fact that they killed off Coco and Toune, as it didn't feel like it served a purpose in the end. It was kind of sudden and lacked any real emotional impact. However, I rather like the tone of Coco's voice as she was singing prior to the ships explosion.
The comedy in the last few episodes were hilarious but they should have stopped with the cowgirls after their first introduction. I was laughing so hard when Child Dragon started to sing the ending theme to the series.
Doom:
I'll ask the same question as you asked me when I finished the series. Do you think that Gainax would do a second season?
Re: Ongoing Anime Discussion (now with October 2004)
That is the same answer I gave you.
Re: Ongoing Anime Discussion (now with October 2004)
Crap, I read that last spoiler by accident.
I DON'T WANT TOUNE TO DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I DON'T WANT TOUNE TO DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Well, for one, they didn't die. They were stuck in space with the people (well, machines) that they were in love with. I thought this was pretty appropriate to show how they were "bad melos" and how special Bocca and Solo were. And yes, the last arc was hilarious, and this is from someone who finds most anime humor utterly stupid.Killey wrote:Doom wrote:My thoughts on MoO ending:

I really doubt they'd come with another season. There's not really any need, as they allude to the fact that it's a cycle. I'm not sure how popular the show was in Japan, but depending on that, I could see a movie happening, but it'd probably be something like the RahXephon movie.
Anyways, this series gets a V from me and definitely lands in my top 5.
Re: Ongoing Anime Discussion (now with October 2004)
MoO 21 was hilarious. The sexual innuendoes were
as was the randomness. Also, I like how Bocca still blushes whenever Toune does her Melos arrow.

@ mz
I'm fairly certain that they were on the ship that blew up in the end, but I may have missed something.
Edit: hmm... perhaps there's something to what you're saying. I don't feel like going through it again in detail right this moment though.

Doom:
I was pretty sure that they were on the ship that disappeared by moving back and forth real fast. That's why Bocca wanted Elan Vital to go back so he could save them. I'll rewatch it again when Rice-Box puts theirs out and see if it clears anything up.

Hmm... so here is our (my and mz's) speculation (episode 23 spoilers):
<emzee> I didn't think that was the one they were on
<emzee> I thought they were on the one that was shooting back in forth between 2 locations
<emzee> which doesn't crash
<Doom> tough call
<emzee> Well
<emzee> that's just what I gathered
<emzee> Perhaps it will become clearer when I watch R-B's sub
<Doom> well when you see the one shooting back and forth
<Doom> you see like waves
<Doom> on the screen
<Doom> which is the ship you see in the next shot
<Doom> spreading that wave
<Doom> ...yeah i'm not really sure what exactly happened there
<emzee> Yeah
<emzee> I think the one that crashes is something else
<emzee> cause that other one begins to move so fast that it disappears
<emzee> and that's the last you see of it
<emzee> If that one had crashed
<emzee> then the Elan Vital wouldn't work
<Doom> well i know that
<Doom> hmm, i thought they got off that one and were back on their old shpi
<Doom> ship
<Doom> for some reason
<emzee> oic
<emzee> That could be
<emzee> Like
<emzee> the setting of their last scene was simular to that of the ship they went to space on originally
<emzee> Had it become undocked, though?
<emzee> I didn't think it did
<Doom> yeah, i don't know
<emzee> There were just like
<emzee> The piece that the rouge ivermachine was in
<emzee> which I think crashed
<emzee> and a piece that Dragon Child got away in
<emzee> which obviously wouldn't crash
<Doom> ok
<Doom> 16:02
<Doom> "everyone has safely gathered at mahoroba"
<Doom> which is their old ship
<emzee> right
<emzee> which is docked
<emzee> right?
<Doom> well, what is 20:50?
<Doom> the ship that eventually blows up
<Doom> releases a wave
<Doom> that disintegrates some nearby ship
<emzee> isn't that mono's ship?
<Doom> which apparently leads to mitoranoum being activated
<Doom> so is the ship that disintegrates mitoranoum?
<emzee> can't be
<Doom> well the ship that blows up can't be it
<emzee> hmmm...
<emzee> perplexing
Nothing really conclusive since I'm not dwelling on it anymore for tonight, but... hmm.

Re: Ongoing Anime Discussion (now with October 2004)
Spoilers:
That seems a bit odd but I'm fairly certain that they do indeed die. Otherwise, I don't really see the point in having Coco sing in that somber tone right before the ship explodes. Then again, I havn't seen that episode is months so my memory on the whole situation is quite fuzzy.

Re: Ongoing Anime Discussion (now with October 2004)
I believe the Mahoroba docks with the Mitoranoum before the original system activates and it begins shifting between present and past. Also, was the song before the ship explodes really sung by Coco? I got the impression it was sung by the cowgirls since Coco was sleeping and it showeed the cowgirls in unison singing the song. It didn't sound like one voice anyway. The same melody was also played in the battle scene in episode 20 so I think it was just a somber theme played during "sad" scenes

Re: Ongoing Anime Discussion (now with October 2004)
My thoughts on the end of MoO:
I think that this series is the best thing to come out of Gainax since Evangelion, which means that I place it higher than FLCL (still good mind you). It just seems as if they weren't holding back, and they just went wild with it. As crazy as it was, as weird as it was, as stylistic as it was, and as original as it was, it was pure Gainax. I'm not talking about reusing scenes or fanservice either, but it just really felt as if they put a grand part of their soul into this.
Anyways, here's what I thought of the ending:
I have mixed feelings about the humor that was.
It was welcomed at first. Even after repeated times it was still welcomed. But truthfully I think the last four episodes could have easily done without say, 85% of the comedy that was there.
Also, what the hell happened at the end anyway? Did Sayako get punctured or what? I'm royally confused.
Other than that, most everything else was top notch. Very few complaints from me, and I'd LOVE for them to go at it like this again.

I think you are referring to a different song as I'm certain that it was indeed Coco who was singing her odd song prior to the ships explosion.
Oh, I forgot to mention this before but the latest Newtype (at least I think its the latest one) has some images regarding Full Metal Panic season 3. Judging from the images the new season looks like it'll be back to the more serious stuff as you can see Sousuke on top of his mech. There also two new female characters but little information is given about them. Finally, rumors have it that Chidori will be excluded from this season but this is just a rumor so it hasn't been proven true yet. I would find it quite odd to exclude Chidori from this since she plays such an importnat role throughout the series. I'll post the images from Newtype either today or tomorrow.

Re: Ongoing Anime Discussion (now with October 2004)
Isn't the new FMP season based on the Owaru Day by Day novel? I thought Chidori was in that?

Re: Ongoing Anime Discussion (now with October 2004)
A big
to Fanfer
I'm up to episode 23 right now and I really love how the series keeps me guessing as none of the characters can be labled as safe anymore. Unfortunately, the story doesn't seem like it went anywhere within the last few episodes. There's also one episode left in the series since episode 25 aired yesterday so I'm wondering if they'll be able to tie things up within that timeframe or will it pull another Eva here.
I'm completely addicted to School Rumble right now.
The music videos for the opening and ending theme are so very odd but I love the ending theme so much.

Re: Ongoing Anime Discussion (now with October 2004)
Well I started School Rumble not too long ago and I figured I would enjoy the series from the start anyways. Considering I found Azumanga Daioh, and Sensei no Ojikan hilarious I expected the same thing from School Rumble.
Doom:
I guess I wasn't paying any attention when I saw the availability of the file. Stil, it leaves me concerned as to how the series will end considering the events of the recent episodes but I should be able to finish the series sometime soon so I'll post impressions then.

School Rumble is good.
And Genshiken 12 raw (final?) is already out? Didn't know we were that far back. Figured we were only a week behind.
