The latest episodes of One Piece are extending the Davy Back Fight story arc. The extension is probably to allow the manga to get ahead otherwise the anime would catch up.

Don't expect the drama to ever stop but at the very least it does a damn good job at what it does. It is depressing at some times and you wish the main character would do something at times but its a good portrayal of human nature. The ending is easily one of teh best endings in an anime and ties everything up rather nicely. There is a manga being released right now, which fills in some loose ends during the anime if your interested. I forget which company is releasing it but I bought the first volume.

Yeah, this series makes me quite angry too but it's depressing seeing communities break down over the course of time. I wouldn't say it's nihilistic but it gives off similar vibes. It wasn't until episode 18 that I really began to appreciate how well everything tied in under the main theme. Favorite part of the series is definately seeing how Kouji became increasingly useless as the situation became more tense.

Have a nice day
Well I mean, it's not like there's THAT much that's new and worthy. Gank and Genshiken, no excuse. SEED if you were a fan of the original. Beck and Yakitate, sure. Otherwise, everything else noteworthy is more like "try and see if you like it" - School Rumble, Fantastic Children, Kannaduki no Miko, Rozen Maiden among others.
Re: Anime Pub Thread v.503
ah yes, i started with gank and i've been meaning to catch up. dont think genshiken is for me
is anyone still watching monster btw? i havent seen it in like 20 eps and was wondering if its still doing a gj

Re: Anime Pub Thread v.503
Yeah... Infinite Ryvius at least one of my top 10 now, maybe top 5. Was a great ride and easily the most satisfying endings I've seen. I like how they were able to set aside an episode for wrapping everything up like PlanetES. Was only 26 episodes but felt as epic as a 52 episode series.

WE LOVE ADV
http://www.animeondvd.com/ wrote:Gantz Goes Long (12:38 PM EST): Gantz, a series which starts soon that runs twenty-six episodes (and ADV has said at conventions that they're viewing it as one series as opposed to two seasons), is apparently being brought out in a different way here. The first volume has been solicited with the two episodes at $17.99 on 02/08/2005. According to information posted in the AnimeNation News section, this series will be a thirteen (13) volume release, presumably at the same price point for all volumes. There's plenty of pricing calculations that you can do where it even comes out slightly cheaper ($6 cheaper than an eight volume release) but I don't think people will really care on that point.
With this news, it's pretty likely that we'll only be covering the releases of this series and not the actual reviews. In my mind, this is completely the wrong way for releases to go for a number of reasons. If this is simply a marketing gimmick, it may work with those who don't know what's going on. I'd hazard a guess that it's related to the Japanese release, which had three episodes on the first disc and two on subsequent discs, of which only the first thirteen episodes have been released to DVD so far.
This is not a release pattern I want anything to do with or even to seemingly give some tacit approval of by providing reviews for. Thirteen volumes for twenty-six episodes is simply unacceptable.
Well it's not much different from most japanese DVD releases, which usually contain 2 or so episodes for a price of a DVD that usually contains at least 4 episodes over here. Still, I have to agree that this is truly unacceptable on ADV's behalf and unless they cram in a lot of extras per disc it's not really worth buying in the first place. Actually, the Gantz anime in general is not worth buying in the first place.himurokoken wrote:13 volumes for 26 eps.
2 eps a disc?! That reminds me back in the day when we only got 2 eps vhs tapes for 30 dollars!

Gantz is twisted. By the same author as the infamous HEN, any explanations from me will completely fail to describe the experience that is Gantz. It has been running in Weekly Young Jump since 2000.

Korono Kei, a high school freshman, put on airs and thought only about
a girl. One day, on his way home, he came across a guy accidentally
fell from the platform. He didn't care for other person, and at first
he enjoyed watching this. However, Kato Masaku, who was the classmate
in his elementary days, suddenly got off from the platform to help the
man. Being asked for help, Kei reluctantly began to help him. But when
they were helping the man, a train came. They must have been killed by
the train, but they were transferred into a room of a condominium in a
moment. There, they found a black sphere and people who supposed to be
dead like Kei. They couldn't get out of the room, and they couldn't
even touch the wall. What is the room? What is this ball?
While all things were going on, a naked girl named Kishimoto Kei was
transferred into the room. Then, from the sphere, "raido excecise
song" came, and it said, "Your lives are gone, and the new lives are
all at my will". I didn't explain anything other than that, and it
gave them weapons and ordered them to hunt aliens.
He couldn't cry for help, and gradually Kei and Kato found that it was
a real fight and was not a game or TV. Regardless of their will, they
were involved in a mysterious fight against aliens.
What will happen to them? What is the mysterious sphere, "Gantz"?
Gantz has keys of all mysteries.
Re: Anime Pub Thread v.503
Yeah, that's what I remember.
I want to see the entire cast of Kaleido Star in some massive orgy ala Angels in the Court.
If nobody knows what that is, it's a pretty awesome hentai.

Re: Anime Pub Thread v.503
Now and Then, Here and There has an extremely good soundtrack.
Is it from the same composer as Rurouni Kenshin OVA1's?

CONNNNNNNNDOOOR HEROOOO~
hahaha, ADV blows ass
They just ruined like the only reason I had left to buy American DVDs (cheaper than Japanese) rofl~
17.99 x 13 = 233.87
24.99 x 8 = 199.92
I see nothing in the math. If they were higher than 24.99 for a 3 episode dvd I wouldn't buy it in the first place.
You'd also be paying higher taxes with that included. rofl have fun with that ADV.

Re: Anime Pub Thread v.503
Yeah, it made me cry too, but for different reasons
The first part was a terrible recap of the series, my friend who watched it with me never saw the series, and he couldnt understand what was going on, hell, I had trouble following it, gj there guys.
The Second part was totally redundant and added absolutely nothing to the story whatsoever, Maybe I'm being too harsh on it but after OVA1, which was one of my favourite anime ever, I expect a certain amount of quality. Not poorly thought out recaps, terrible fight scenes and pointless story telling, its only redeeming feature was the soundtrack.

The ending made me cry because I liked the characters so much. Especially Kenshin. Kenshin still remains my favorite anime character to this day.
So emotional.
The recaps weren't bad at all. If you didn't notice, they all gave you a sense of the bond Kenshin and Kaoru had, which was basicaly absent from the anime tv series. It also concentrated on why they should not be together and so forth, and this is shown through the various trials Kenshin faces.
Also the second part of the ova rubbish? If anything that second part of the ova fleshed out Kenshin even more. This guy, beat the living snot out of Sanosuke using the most deadly sword art ever (exaggeration) couldn't even catch a piece of food thrown at him. Kenshin grew old and weak, and he feels more human than he ever did in the tv series and so forth (atleast to me). I agree that the Jinchuu part could and should have it's own ova, hell, it's own tv series, but I'm still happy with what they did when they animated it. And Kenshin's death striked a chord with me because his scar disappeared. I remember fully well what Itsuka told Kenshin about the scar and the so called curse (which actually happened to be true). Seeing Kenshin grow up from a little kid sold to slave traders to Hitokiri Battosai, followed by a Rurouni, then a weak man dying from a disease who can't catch a fucking piece of fruit after all the high flying sword shit he did before, and actually seeing him die was what made Kenshin so special to me. You felt as if you had a connection with that damn oaf. And Kenshin ova 2 only made my fandom towards him grow even more

I loved OVA2, but only because I rewatched that fight with the evil guy in disc 1, like 10 times.

Re: Anime Pub Thread v.503
I still haven't seen Kenshin OVA2.
Kenshin OVA1 was one of the best anime ever tho so I've been wanting to see Kenshin done in same way again.
EDIT: Just finished watching NTHT. Easily as good as Infinite Ryvius though I hesitate to say which I enjoyed more. Perfectly done series with very little flaws, especially the ending which I felt concluded it on a good, albeit sad note. I especially liked the idea that the people were able to settle their conflicts and move on after such a tragedy. Sara accepting her new responsibility as a caretaker and Lala Ru finally using her power to save the world after witnessing the good acts of people around her.
Also various scenes like the rapist soldier saving the kid really put human faces on otherwise cruel, amoral side-characters
for me not checking this out earlier.
And King Hamdo is the craziest villain ever.

Re: Anime Pub Thread v.503
Kenshin OAV2 was garbage and the only redeeming qualities it had was the music, and the fight sequences. The fight scenes with Jinei and Enishi were particularly good. Although, the Enishi fight lacked any real impact without showing the story behind it.
I should check if I have NTHT as I still havn't touched the series.
