Adulthood is better than Kidulthood, even though it’s not as funny.

You think Back to the Future 2 is better than/equal to the original?! Have you actually watched those both since you were a child blinded by hoverboards?

Uh, yes and the future part is not the best part of Back to the Future 2. It's the return to the past part, which is superb.

It’s well-executed in terms of reusing scenes from the first film, and especially in making it seem like Crispin Glover was in it when he’d actually refused to return, and of course it still has the charisma powerhouse that is Michael J. Fox, but I refuse to concede that the film is anywhere near as good as the first in terms of script.

Who knew it would turn out to be a good depiction of 2G15 instead of 1G985

Before Sunset is certainly equal to and maybe even better than its excellent predecessor, Before Sunrise.

People often cite the Godfather, Part 2, and indeed that’s a good example of an excellent sequel. Is it equal or superior to the original? I don’t know, it’s been a long time. I’d concede equal to, probably.

Star Trek 2 The Wrath of Khan is vastly superior to its terrible predecessor.

Oh yeah. I never really think of that as a sequel in the same way, since the Motion Picture was already continuing a TV series, but fair choice.

I’ve heard Evil Dead 2 is better than Evil Dead, but I’ve never seen either.

Winter Soldier was significantly better than the first Captain America and one of the best Marvel movies. Thor Ragnarok was way better than the first two Thor movies, neither of which were good.

I saw the first Evil Dead. It wasn't very good, so I easily believe the second was better.

Oh! Blade Runner. The sequel was at least as good as the original in my opinion.

Also, I just watched Paddington finally after years of being perplexed at how beloved it is. It was indeed very good. I shall soon be watching the sequel, which many claim is better.

I saw Paddington 2 on a plane. It’s boring.
Toy Story 3 is better than the first two.

Paddington 2 has 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, which I guess makes you the first person ever to give it a negative review. :E

I saw the first one in the cinema and it was better than I expected it to be. Was expecting a goofy CG animals on real world reboot like Chipmunks, Garfield and the like got.

Wheb I was a kid I thought Gremlins 2 was better than the first. Haven't seen either since I was little and don't know if I was right or if the second was just full of shark jumping bad ideas.

I rewatched first Gremlins a year or two ago. I haven’t rewatched Gremlins 2 but the trailer looks insane.

I did watch it at Christmas (not this one).

Just watched Paddington 2. Not boring, and about equal to the first, which I also quite liked.

Most of the Harry Potter films are better than the first one. This follows the books though. I'm surprised J.K. Rowling hasn't rewritten any of them yet.

I was gonna say Mou Gaan Dou but no, first on was definitely the best one of the trilogy.

Patlabor II was definitely better than the first one.
Ghost in the shell 2: innocence was better than the first one if I remember well.

I rewatched Gremlins and Gremlins 2 a few years back. I had a better appreciation of Gremlins 2 this time, although 1 is still best.

Blade Runner 2049
Terminator 2
Fight Club the movie is better than the book if that counts?

Terminator 2 is a good one. Fight Club doesn’t count. Films that are better than the books are a different subject altogether :p

TRON legacy was a thousand times better than Tron. So much so they buried the original before the sequel came out.

Aliens was at least as good as Alien.
LotR was pretty consistent across the three films
I only remember The Godfather 2 vaguely, but I think it may qualify.

Do films based on books cheat though by already having the source material existing and sequels planned out before the first film though? They were never just going to make Fellowship. Fellowship even contains some of the story of the next book to set it up better for the sequel.

Interesting. Do we have book adaptation where the first part was awesome and the rest sucked? Totally hijacking the thread now, hehehehe.

I recall being disappointed by the ending of Watchmen, because the movie was so close to the original, and then they went and completely changed the ending.

I’ve heard that of the Dune books.

But some people also like the sequels. I’ve only read the first so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Oooh, so we're deviating from the topic even further by moving away from movies now, I like it :evil

Metro 2033 (the book) was pretty awesome, while the successor 2034 was kinda meh.
