I just don't think it's absolutely necessary to kill off the original Seed characters in order for the new characters to take center stage when there are alternative options that will achieve the same effect. Just because you can't forsee how it's possible to do this doesn't mean it's impossible for it to be accomplished.
We've only seen the new characters for 7 episodes out of a possible 50-52 episodes and you make it sound like that no matter what the creators do there is no way that the new characters can be the main focus of the story. There are still plot devices that are implied in the opening and plot devices that we won't know of until they happen. Within that time frame I'm sure that it's possible for the new characters to be able to distinguish themselves from the main characters of the first season and take center stage.
The new Earth Alliance pilots don't seem that important in the first place and could be easily throw away characters with the exception of Stellar. The others don't seem that interesting so I could care less whether they recieve development or not, which is basically my thoughts on the original Earth Alliance pilots who were just throw away characters from the moment they were introduced.
Doom wrote:And are you saying that there's no way to effectively kill off an old character? Why not? Obviously all of the new characters are fair game (except for Shinn obviously), so what makes the old characters exempt?
I don't think killing off the old characters will magically solve the problem of the new characters having a lacking in development. Killing off any of the old characters, in my mind, seems to defeat the purpose of what they fought for in the first series and the sacrifices that were made to keep those characters alive all so that a few new characters can start distinguishing themselves from the old Seed characters.
In the first place, most of us wanted to see a continuation in the Kira/Athrun storyline rather than have new characters. Even if they do kill off old characters like Kira and Athrun what will that accomplish? At the end of the series a good majority of the fans would probably say that Shin was never as good of a character that Kira and Athrun was. The only character that I would forsee dying would be Kira since he was originally planned to die in the first season.
Putting all of that aside does anybody else find it amusing that the pilot suit that Rey Za Burrel wears is the same one that Raww wears at the end of the series?
