2G18 - 21: Claim to Fame
Do you have a “claim to fame”?
Have you ever experienced a fleeting moment of fame? Made it on to TV? Was an extra in a film? Walked behind a live news reporter or appeared in the audience of a show?
Are you related to anybody famous or do you have any friends who are famous? Did anybody you went to school/college with end up famous?
Bonus discussion. Would you like to be famous? Did you ever want to be famous?

I'm famous for being the MeTEAo script and also for another SG appellation I won't mention.
. Really though, no. I don't have any claim to fam and I don't really mind that. Nor am I aware of any famous relations.
I don't really want to be famous but I would like to exploit fame for money so I can quit my job.
It all comes back to that.
Fei sure seems to have lots of fans making youtube videos of his work. Seems pretty famous to me.

Off the top of my head, my main TV appearances have been a small cameo in a 2012 TV dating show and lots of live news appearances and interviews while dressed as Dumbledore (or rather juts a shit wizard) in the London Harry Potter book 7 queue in 2007. I’ve been in the background and in the audience of things a bunch of times though.
Two people I knew at school (both in the year above me) went on to be pretty damn famous. One was (and probably still is to this day) the county’s biggest ever reality TV star. Sadly, she died of cancer at the age of 27, a few years back. I wasn’t actually friends with her at school, but I knew her to the extent that her family recognised me. Her mum would always say “hi” if she saw me in the pub. Last time this happened was about 3 years ago.
The other went on to be a world heavyweight boxing champion. I was friends with him on Facebook until about 2010 (when he presumably shut down his personal account in favour of fan pages).
I probably would have liked to be famous at some point, but the Dumbledore thing was actually a real eye-opener. Dressed like an idiot and near the front of a ridiculous long queue, I got a lot of attention from news reporters and journalists. I just wanted to have a laugh, dance, drink and take photos in the queue but was constantly being pulled out to stand in front of a camera for a live report. BBC, Sky, CNN, CNN again…
After midnight, when I had the book, I left the store by the back door and it was like being on the red carpet at a film premiere. “DUMBLEDORE” being shouted from all directions. “Put the wand up to the book”. I then got chased down the street by a couple of journalists who pestered the friend I was with, asking what her relation to me was. Only thing I could do to get them off us was take the beard and wig off. I then imagined what it would be like to be, say, Britney Spears. She couldn’t just turn off being that person that the press need a photo of/quote from. At that point, I was glad I wasn’t famous. Saying that, I still pursued going on reality TV and very nearly got on Big Brother in 2013

All that just for being dressed as Dumbledore? Were you the only one?
Fei has a hater named Joe. I don't really understand what's going on in that level anyway, tbh, probably because I haven't played it. Kind of looks like the entire thing is automated to me? Or do they have to play all those notes?

I probably wasn't, but I was near the front of a several thousand person long queue and most other people who dressed up near the front were clearly a bit younger (children) and dressed as Hogwarts students. I think once one put be in front of a camera, the rest wanted me. It was really strange on the way out though.

In the course of the tape she changes style, moving to different imaginary sounds. In all that time no one comes up to her, no one stops her. They walk on by, looking contemptuous or indifferent. The piece multiplies mysteries. The other people, the ones walking by, become as mysterious as the dancer. Those old people in the background - who are they? That boy striding past in dark glasses - what is he thinking? This is simultaneously a portrait of an unnamed woman seen at the Royal Festival Hall, a self-portrait, and an image of what it is to be lost in a private rhapsody.

The piano really makes proper piano sounds when you hit the keys, and that part wasn’t too hard to do. The pistons that play a song are automated. That level was actually a lot more difficult to make than your typical LBP1 music level, even though it’s partially based on the same principle of a little vehicle driving past carefully-spaced proximity switches. But for the pistons to work as they do, I needed to build this whole other hilarious contraption with columns of falling blocks. Joe clearly hasn’t tried to build this himself.Lord Golbez wrote:All that just for being dressed as Dumbledore? Were you the only one?

It was a pretty awesome game at the time.
What other brushes with fame have I had...?
A kid I briefly went to high school with was an actor and is in some movie nobody cares about with David Bowie.
My uncle had a company where they made holograms and he made the hologram used in Hugh the Borg’s eye in Star Trek: TNG.

The RDM appears as an extra in the cafeteria scene of the movie "Dorian Blues." He throws a sandwich at another extra's head (it actually landed perfectly on the top of her head in that take...but it's too blurry to see in the final product).
He wrote some books, but there' not famous books. He would like to sell lots of them and make lots of money but also not have anyone recognize him on sight because he's socially awkward and prefers not to speak to people.

I’m distantly related to the Canadian PM (he’s my grandpas third cousin or something). My dad who hates him met him when he was but a wee lad.
M’y wifes uncle taught Ryan gosling gym in jr high. I’m sure he’s 100% responsible for his good looks.
I worked with someone that was baby sat by alanis morrisset.
There’s a video of me on YouTube giving a talk at a tech conference in Montreal in early 2G16.

As a wee lad, I was taken in picture when the pope visited Montreal. It was in The Gazette. I have no memories of it, and i think popes are the worst, but it happened.

If you do a google image search for "keep crying baby" something I drew is one of the top search results.
I got a mention in the local paper after a big accident on the interstate when I was in high school. I pulled a guy out of his car before the engine fire spread to the rest of the vehicle and kept him from bleeding out until EMS arrived.

I was on the Travel Channel on a couple different spots hamming it up for a burrito food truck that I like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKSmetJ ... be&t=4m53s
I also ran into Hacksaw Jim Duggan that same week. #blessed

I've also met a bunch of pro MMA fighters and Jiu Jitsu guys.

I also told Antonio Banderas that I was going to pretend to kiss him in a photo. He said, "NO!" but I did it anyways.

Notable mentions: Danny Woodburn, Bill Burr, R. Lee Ermey, Stephen Tobolowsky (NED RYERSON! BING!)

Probably my most prized photo with everyone's favorite International Association of Trailer Parks, Trailer Park Supervisors and Assistant Trailer Park Supervisors award winner Jim Lahey.

Lahey and Randy had a live stage show come through our town. It was really fun. At one point, Lahey get's out the shirt I'm wearing and says that it's one of the last one's and he's going to auction it off. He starts bidding and isn't looking towards me for my bid but Randy sees me and yells, "Mr. Lahey! This guy looks like Julian!" So I get a bid in and shortly afterwords he says, "First person up on stage with $50 gets it." I was in the middle of the second row and couldn't jump over the first cause people were in the way. I saw a guy sprinting to the stage out of the corner of my eye so I reached in my back pocket, grabbed my wallet, and threw it up on stage at Lahey's feet. He picks it up, rifles through it, yell's "There's only $40 fucking dollars in here!", pauses, and yells, "You're fucking lucky!" and throws me the shirt, a pair of signed aviator glasses, and my empty wallet.

claims to fame? when i was in university people would chuckle reading my comics in the science department parody news paper. apparently they got some positive (and negative) feedback so they weren't unnoticed.
according to imgur i think most of my doodling is more likely claims to infamy. but that place has gotten more trolly.
otherwise not too much else. just doing my thing.
celebrity encounters... I met the chewbacca guy at disneyworld. I met Seth Rogan at London Drugs. I met Commander Riker in Maple Ridge when he was filming a western. Neighbours I knew back in Maple Ridge were into acting. The dad was a therapist in the first Final Destination that pops up after the plane crash (DOES ANYBODY NEED THERAPY?!). Daughter was in the Exorcism of Emily Rose.

I used to get recognized on the skytrain or at random places occasionally as "Shaun from Square Gamer"
I was in Disney's Aladdin on Ice as Jaffar's parrot (I can't remember his name.)
I snuck onto the very first train on the new millenium line here in Vancouver, which others paid $100 for the privilege of, and was interviewed on the local news about it (as seen on SGTV 7?).
I was small town famous in rural Japan for my hit single "Beer Song"
I met Brian Glick.
