I checked out the demo, and wow. It is absolutely gorgeous. The environments are so fucking realistic, I must've missed 3 alligators in one area until they started moving. I didn't even realise an alligator until it was almost right next to me
I'll tell you this right off the bat. There has never been more need for stealth in ANY metal gear game as there has been for this. MGS2, you could get away with being caught a few times, even in Extreme mode. Not so in this game. The Alerts etc last for such a goddamn long time, and the enemies are nowhere near as stupid as they were. Actually the programming was kinda weird for this, as it seems that if you're camo rating is fairly high, even if you're standing directly in front of the enemy, they still have to go through the whole IS SOMEONE THERE phase before they go into full alert mode. Of course this only takes a few seconds, and when they do, you can pretty much reset the game. You're never gonna get away properly.
I was hiding behind a tree with 65% camouflage rating and I had a hand out..a guard caught me from about 70-80 metres away. Not immediately caught, but they start coming towards you to check any abnormalities, but you can bet your ass that if you try to get away and you come into their view, they go into full alert mode immediately, even if they're really REALLY far away. This makes shooting them a lot harder, because you have to make sure you shoot them from really far away, and it's a lot harder to aim. On top of that, there's no soliton radar in this game as you may have known, so there is no "sight range" for the enemies as far as I can tell.
There was this other area where I made sure to shoot the two sentries which I could see. I used my Sonar radar to see if there were any enemies nearby (this only lasts for 3 seconds or so), and there were none. I honestly did everything I could, and made sure there was noone around. I took two steps out into the open and some fucker saw me. Full Alert mode, I managed to kill a few guys, get away, but that's basically it. You're in a fucked up position, from hiding, and you don't really know where the enemies are now. You may as well just die and continue.
Also, the suppressors in this game are temporary, so you can choose to equip them and unequip them when you want. When the suppressor loses its ability to suppress after a number of shots, you will still make noise.
The codec is a lot nice looking this time around (no more MGS rehash), although the Codec in the menu takes years to load.
I'm kinda worried that the gameplay may be a little too difficult, but on the plus side - the graphics are simply stunning. Nothing on the PS2 even comes close to how beautiful this looks.
