In 1288 AD (a leap year), the Scots Parliament creates a law allowing women to propose marriage to men during leap years; men who refuse such proposals are required to pay a fine to the spurned bride-to-be.

That's a very specific law.

I like that you could potentially gamble as a woman on proposing to men who you think would refuse in order to get that sweet fine money. But what if they call your bluff!!

My office wouldn't be. As soon as the outside temperature drops below 15, people in there decide to crank the horrible 70's heating system up to 30. In a short sleeved shirt, I'm sweating and my head is thumping too much to work. After a few hours of it, one of the people who turned it up and carried on complaining that they were cold will say they're too hot and turn it back down. Much prefer to be able to have control of my own heating and dynamically add/remove appropriate layers of clothing.

I like that but fortunately I'm by myself so it shouldn't bother anyone too much unless it affects nearby apartments which should be minimal.

Sadly our hot water heat is landlord controlled and is FUCKING TURNED OFF today while it’s <10 C outside. (Being charitable they are probably doing some kind of work on it going into winter.) So I have cracked out the space heater we thankfully have.

Sometimes I get anxiety about sending certain emails (like to important-ish people), which feels silly, but it's a thing. In the office it's easy to be like "hey, can you take a look at this? I want a second set of eyes" but being remote maeks it feel less casual and more formal and then i get anxiety about needing to have it looked over.

We even discussed what would be in the email so there's no surprises. I'm always super paranoid about saying the wrong thing though (or saying it the wrong way).

Anxiety is fun.

Here’s my late entry to the poetry contest that Damien already won:

It’s twenty-twenty ten twenty.
This year has been plenty.
Two more months and twelve more days,
Or is twenty-twenty here to stay?

I’m submitting this one separately under a pseudonym, smeared ink:

October twenty, twenty-twenty,
When’s it over, when’s it going?
Trump alone is plenty (plenty!),
Covid too just feels like trolling.

There's also a bit of "this should've been done a week ago but I was too busy and now I feel bad b/c asking draws attention to the fact that it's not done yet"

While I'm glad to be insulated from taking calls at the moment (no work phone), lack of social contact REALLY drives me into my own head and makes the anxiety worse. When I have social contact I feel a bit more normal.

I always get anxiety at making/taking calls (for about 10 years). I often just let my phone right rather than answer and it’s one of the main reasons I left my last job so soon.
