Re: has it been so long?
Seams like we have one of these threads each time a new version of SG launches. And although I am sad to admit that I fall into the category of people who rarely post anymore, its good to see so many of you still do post on a regular basis. I cant even begin to find the words needed to thank everyone who has been a part of this communit yfor the past.. yeah like past 5 years or so. I think I started posting in spring of 99 after having trolle dthe forums for a while earlier in the year and part of 98.
I've met so many people through these forums that I have lost count. However our road trip in the summer of '04 to Vancouver is, and always will be one of my fondest memories. I only wish I would have made it to Toronto three years prior but car troubles kept me from making the trip.
I wont go into to much detail here, as you have all been here with me for the past five years. There is not much that I can add that you all dont remember, but lets just say that it has been a strange but wonderful trip
/salute

Re: has it been so long?
God, I don't even remember exactly when I joined. Ask SD, he probably remembers, since he brought me here. I'm thinking it was right when SG was born. I lurked about for a long time, and then only in the past year or so have I become a regular poster. But yeah, it's really odd to think that I have known people from here longer than people I've met in college.
Re: has it been so long?
I'm not exactly sure when I came to SG but it was during the eF phase!~!~ I was linked here from another (incredibly awful) forum for Transformers concerning some game info. When I hit refresh there were new replies and I was flabbergasted! I proceeded to be a huge nub and kiss lots of ass and move on to being kickbitch across all of beyondirc.net! SG got me to buy CS, a dreamcast and PSO (but I still missed all the PSO fun
), and SG and Doom are definitely to blame for my anime fanboyism.
Re: has it been so long?
I remember when me and Gimp chatted with Bio in the #sqp chatroom on birc. He was such a nice guy.

Re: has it been so long?
ahhh, I was after End of Eva videos... found this site from another board link (which was about comics
which also doesn't exist anymore) and decided to register for no other reason than the site having an anime forum
I got my mod in about 3 months and have fun posting random anime/manga news back when there were so little source for that info on the net (nowdays there is even daily news, so I don't bother with it anymore). I got the oportunity to met some of the Van people last year, summer 03, which was an interesting experiense.
and I usually try to blame myself for Doom anime/manga fascination, even though I'm not part of it
Have a nice day

The way I meandered here was a bit ironic...
The guy I was dating at the time played videogames a lot, and while he played FF8, I browsed the web, which I didn't mind so much at the time, because I didn't have access at home. Then I began reading some square related forum that had a blue scheme, and had chocobos on it. It was mildly entertaining, but I never bothered to make an account there. A few months passed, the relationship ended, and I got internet access at my house in feb 2000. I was still friends with the guy, so once I set up ICQ, he messaged me with something like "oh, here's that site you always went to: www.ff8.org" I went there, and it had the blue scheme and the whatnot, so I continued with my lurking. I ended up regging in april 2000, where I was about to reply to chocobo's post about needed a javascipt menu thing, but I didn't get the confirmation email, so I headed to the chatroom do tell someone that it was broken. Within a minute, I was dubbed "undies."
A few months later, I figured out what that forum was that I was reading initially, with the blue scheme and the chocobos... it was FFWA.

Going to Vancouver those two times was freakin awesome. Meeting SGers in real life was actuaslly quite an experience. I don't think I ever laughed more than walking with Joei and Trev anywhere.
Re: has it been so long?
Omfg. Its been so long I can't even remember how I found it. God so many incarnations and so many people coming and going
I remember being here for the whole ff8 craze before it came out, that was one of the most memorable times. Hah, I remember the days when every Topic was an essay, and nearly every post and argument was also like a small essay.
I remember people getting into arguments and using language that hardly anyone ever uses trying to make the other one look stupid. Ah yes, the good ol days.

If you guys weren't on the west coast, I would have probably tried to come to one of the gatherings. Never reallly had the time/money to come over for a visit though. I've wanted to see Vancouver anyway at stome point. If I did head over that way I've always wanted to see the monteray bay aqaurium on california as well.
Re: has it been so long?
I originally came to SG when I followed a link to some FF8 wassap video. That was around the time of the FF Anthology video I think. I popped into the java chat a couple times but never went into the forums. That was around the time I was an internet nub and didn't know wtf forums were. I registered as SirCyrus to begin with and spammed maybe ten posts, then SG crashed. When the bland white temp forums came up I registered Cid as fast as I fucking could and have stayed Cid every since.
I don't think anyone remembers me from way back, but I was here. Maybe it was a couple years ago when I actually started posting pretty frequently? Don't really remember. I know I have some fond memories of Firebrand, the war with GameGo, and the Collin fiasco, among other things.
Square Gamer has been one of few constant things in my life and I appreciate that. Hopefully I've made some kind of influence in return.
I look forward to years more, and actually meeting a few of you next month! Long live the true home of spam

Re: has it been so long?
A college friend of my brother dropped a burned copy of FF8j into my lap right when it came out just to show off that he was a 1337 h4x0r. I didn't speak any Japanese at the time, but I figured I'd give it a shot anyway. ff8.org at the time had the best spell translation picture that I could find so when I needed help later in the game, I came to the forums here, which were hosted somewhere else like gamers.com or .net. A few weeks later, I came back and noticed a message saying that the forums were now being hosted at ff8.org so I reregistered, and then Square Gamer launched a few months after.
I was in the #squaregamer chatroom on dal.net as Heretic was setting it up, but he wouldn't op me. He went MIA so Shaun let Dash and I take over. Dash went MIA and the chatroom was pretty much mine for the rest of its existance. I didn't want to be a mod/admin on the forums because I liked the way we had the chatroom and forum separated. After the chatroom fizzled out and it was clear that the forum needed a few new admins, I took the spot.

Re: has it been so long?
Pshaw.
I joined around four years ago, but I had been lurking way back when the whole place was blue, which was 99 I believe. Not sure. I joined up, managed to create SGNJ, plan a date for it, and then end up not being able to go because of horribly random family trouble that happened that very morning.
I met Ikari twice and Hiei once. They showed me around Chinatown and I've been going ever since. I'd like to think I'm a amicable member here, even if I've rarely touched any Square games and quite a whiles away from many of you.
I stick around because the environ here is just unrivaled. You folks are so close that it all comes off natural, and there's a certain air to that just makes it so damn addicting.

Re: has it been so long?
ZDTV used to have segments about a persons favorite site during commercials, one of them happened to be about Square Gamer. I believe that's how I found SG.
Re: has it been so long?
I think i came around 2000? 1999? I was still pretty new to the internet i suppose. I dont know how i found this place or why i joined, bur im sure some of you remember making fun of me then..Not like you dont now anyways. Re: has it been so long?
I used to visit ff8.org a lot after the JP release since I was obsessed with getting the latest information. I usually visited this site and Madman's Cafe. In the later months of 1999, I finally decided to check out the forums but couldn't think of a name to register. I also found the chatroom that night and with my shitty html skills, SquallOmega allowed me to work on a fan site with him (Project Omega). I quickly named myself CloudOmega due to lack of originality as a 13 year old. After the SG crash, I changed my name to LagunaOmega. SquallOmega eventually teamed up with Sir Nikon to make Square Unlimited where I was part of the game coverage team
. During this time, I frequently joined the chatroom making an ass out of myself with inane remarks. I can't remember why I changed my name to DarkSerge (maybe because it was no longer Project Omega, instead Square Unlimited). And then there was SGTO where I was a stupid shy teenager who hardly talked! Here I am now years later, I hardly post here but I am part of the FFXI community where I feel I contribute.
EDIT #2: Also since now that I am in University with my own computer, I'd like to idle in IRC and pop up whenever I'm free. If someone wants to pm me the info, I'd appreciate it. If not, whatever.
