I EAT THE SNAKES

Re: I EAT THE SNAKES
Where did you get the sniper rifle so early?

Re: I EAT THE SNAKES
It was in an area just to the west of the river leading up to the warehouse. There's a fork right at the end of the river; the western branch leads to a small munitions dump. The sniper rifle was in a room at the back of that area.
I should note that I'm playing on Normal, though; I haven't confirmed this, but I've heard rumours that the weapon locations may be different on other difficulties. (FYI, though, EVA seems to like to tell you if there are any interesting weapons or items nearby if you call her on the Radio.)

It's true. I've played it on Easy thru Hard so far and the weapon/item locations are different on each difficulty setting.
Re: I EAT THE SNAKES
No, sneaking up behind him gets you the Moss Camo, and yes, to get his sniper rifle you have to beat him using tranqs.
Re: I EAT THE SNAKES
I had a ridiculously intense battle with The End, which ended with him sneaking up on me, then running away as if he snuck up on me by accident, and then having a coughing fit 3 metres after he starts running, so I just popped a tranquilizer dart in his back and won :D
The whole sneaking up on him thing was easy enough, it just took me forever to figure out how to hold him up. I finally realised that I had to aim away and aim back at his head, 3 times for him to shake off his camo.
No, what I was worried about the entire time, was that if I go into first person mode, there's a fairly high chance that he'll sneak up behind me, and I'll end up back in the Graniny Gorki lab.

Well I beat the game about 4 hrs ago or so and it is amazing. I must say this game almost beats MGS1. Its too bad this is the ONLY game I haven't bought (because I can't afford it, thanks to GTA, an XBOX, Halo2 and a bunch of other shit). Im trying to get all 64 kerotan frogs now, and its FRUSTRATING! If only I had codebreaker.

Re: I EAT THE SNAKES
If you ask me, you should trade in Halo 2 for MGS3.
Yeah, it is amazing. The only thing I can really complain about is the game's linear nature. Once you leave some place sometimes you can't go back.

It appears that there is a water face paint that no one has collected and in order to get it you have to backtrack to the cave that you fought The Pain in after your encounter with Granin. The only way to do this is by using the cardboard boxes and hopping on a transport truck ala MGS1.
Re: I EAT THE SNAKES
That sounds kinda... not true. For one thing, there are only three boxes in the game; two of which lead to areas in the final base, and one of which has no stated destination. (Though I'll check and see if it goes anywhere.) Second, that seems like a pretty silly backtrack for something that's not even going to be very useful to you at that point in the game. Third, if nobody has collected it, how does anyone know where it is?Killey wrote:That's not entirely true.himurokoken wrote:If you ask me, you should trade in Halo 2 for MGS3.![]()

Of course, if you're getting this from the strategy guide or something, I'll eat my words.
Re: I EAT THE SNAKES
The strategy guide is known to be wrong. I seem to recall someone saying that the strategy guide only lists 52 of the kerotan frogs.

Re: I EAT THE SNAKES
Well I'm not sure if this true or not but I've read this info on the net and I'm not one to believe everything that gets posted on the net especially considering the source but Redlimit has mentioned it and he's discovered quite a bit to the game. If it's false then I do apologize but I wouldn't put it past Kojima to place hidden camo/paints in obscure areas.Z? wrote:That sounds kinda... not true. Re: I EAT THE SNAKES
Don't worry, I'm not accusing you of anything.
I'm right at the point where I can use the boxes to travel, so I should know the answer by later today.
Re: I EAT THE SNAKES
*beat the game and didn't know you could use boxes to travel*

You nub! DID YOU NOT PLAY MGS1 AND 2?!himurokoken wrote:*beat the game and didn't know you could use boxes to travel*

Re: I EAT THE SNAKES
I rarely used the trucks in MGS1 and in MGS2 I just walked from place to place.
Re: I EAT THE SNAKES
It is indeed correct. The game uses lots of "one-way ledges" to prevent normal backtracking, but using the boxes in the back of trucks allows for area switching. I found this out by mistake actually, but hey if it works it works.
So far only the Water Facepaint has been found using this (after you finish up at the Granin Facility, return to the cave/river area and look for it - location will depend on difficulty).
I'm playing through a game right now where I am going to backtrack like a mofo and see what else I can find.
There are still about 5 to 10 unacounted for faces/camos from looking at the game data.

Re: I EAT THE SNAKES
I don't think there were any trucks in MGS2 but there was that transport service within Big Shell. You remember the area where all the boxes were being transported around? Well you could equip a box at a designated area and a guard would send you through the transport service.
Re: I EAT THE SNAKES
Exactly. That one room with the conveyor belts, I believe. You'd bring a box onto a conveyor belt and voila, off to whatever area was designated on the box.Killey wrote:I don't think there were any trucks in MGS2 but there was that transport service within Big Shell. Re: I EAT THE SNAKES
I just don't understand how you would use a box to backtrack from the Granin research facility... unless I missed one, but I'm pretty sure there are only three. Two lead to locations inside Groznyj Grad, and the third (which you can't get UNTIL Groznyj Grad) doesn't go anywhere (I checked).
Re: I EAT THE SNAKES
Yeah.. I've been wondering about that too...Z? wrote:I just don't understand how you would use a box to backtrack from the Granin research facility... unless I missed one, but I'm pretty sure there are only three. BTW, I bought the strategy guide, and its not nearly as bad as everyone says. It is true that they dont have ALL the info in the game, which is very unfortunate. My guess is that they ran out of time before publication or something. It des have a LOT of information, though, so I believe it was still worth the purchase. It has strategies for all areas, locations of all items/ammo hidden in grass or whatever, descriptions and locations of all food, etc etc etc.
It is true that it is missing exact locations for three of the kerotans. Instead of having the precise info, it just has a picture of a kerotan saying "find me!". These three locations are Sokrovenno North, Lazorvo South, and Zaozyorje North.
i'm approaching the end now and just want to finish it and get it out of the way. it's become boring. though i've been told the end will completely change my opinion. I'm at the planting c3 part and the story up until now has been blah. just conversations about where i have to go
mrobo: I am impaired mentally
no fucking shit, that's what I told you I found boring about it. Anyway, I thought it picked up after you met Raikov, so at the point you're up to, I thought you'd be significantly more interested by now. Besides, you're basically at the end of the game.Joei wrote:i'm approaching the end now and just want to finish it and get it out of the way. it's become boring. though i've been told the end will completely change my opinion. Yeah, I just finished it, and I had the same problem. I didn't find it boring, because I enjoy stealth gameplay, but a lot of it felt like the early portions of FF7 where you were wandering from town to town to find out that Sephiroth had "just left". IMO, they should have cut out most of the early portions of operation Snake Eater (including a few of the less interesting bosses), and included some third mission where we see more of Big Boss's gradual decision to leave his country.Joei wrote:i'm approaching the end now and just want to finish it and get it out of the way. it's become boring. though i've been told the end will completely change my opinion. The last few hours ARE very cool, though; the story just needed to be spread out over the game more evenly.
Re: I EAT THE SNAKES
Planting the C3 is like, the start of the insane story and gameplay. Plant the C3. You won't be dissapointed.
That was my complaint about it, but I worded it differently in that I felt that the game should've had more twists rather than just a straight path. It offends X-weapon at WF that the sacred MGS3 could have any flaws though.Z? wrote: The last few hours ARE very cool, though; the story just needed to be spread out over the game more evenly.

Re: I EAT THE SNAKES
X-Weapon has some issues when it comes to MGS3.
Re: I EAT THE SNAKES
One thing I thought they could have done to pad the story more would have been to provide more background info on the members of the Cobra unit. In MGS1, most bosses had a nice character development scene just before/after you killed them, and if you paid attention to the codec conversations you could piece together quite a bit of their backstory and how they got their powers. Whereas in MGS3 it was just... "The End is a really old sniper! And he photosynthesizes! Uhh... because he can!" It also would have been an opportunity to flesh out the Boss's character more, since they could talk about their experiences with her.
Re: I EAT THE SNAKES
Yeah, I was kind of dissapointed to see that tehy didnt spend the time to develop the bosses other than The Sorrow, who turned out to be my favorite member of the Cobra unit.
Re: I EAT THE SNAKES
You basically find out at the end of the game that The Cobra Unit was formed by The Boss at the request of The Philsophers. They were to be a top secret strike force unit that would also help with strange experiments.
But yeah - thats not very much backstory. Its enough to go "oh so they were involved in a lot of secret experimental stuff so they have weird powers", but you don't really know why or how really.
I did like how they extrapolated on that in MGS1...

wtf? Suyahs is from my area in Texas and I never knew.
I agree completely about the Cobra unit story thing.
Re: I EAT THE SNAKES
The first few hours and the last few hours are pretty story-heavy; most of the middle is much lighter on movies.
Re: I EAT THE SNAKES
i played thru the first hour of mgs3. now i use the word "play" lightly since there isn't as much playing as there is watching. the intro was completely unoriginal and unengaging at all. I went back and started mgs2 over again, and despite the horrible plot that game had serious STYLE. i only hope that mgs3 picks up quickly
im still gonna get mgs3 for christmas, but kojima still loses points in my book for taking a step backwards in style, at least in opening section (which is the most important part...to get players into the game)

I promise you it gets better. And thats just kind of an introducer (like mgs2's snake). The true entrance/beginning is yet to come. But an hour in might mean that you're already there.
The gameplay is pretty nice too, the ending is amazing.
You would be missing out because its the opposite of mgs2, cheesy intro, great game. Mgs 2 = Awesome intro (first 30 mins), Decent game.
