well I have a b in english, so the spelling thing is not my school problem, I have a d in both social studies and science because I didnt do 4 of my current earth science articals, and socail studies is boring >.< + Theres a lot of work to do for 1 stinkin assignment! I'm doing the work now, and I pretty much know I got a good grade on the social studies test today because the majority of the points were based on us writing down the preamble and part of the role of government from memory, part of the Decleration of independence.

@BMF
Advice from another lazy bum: do your homework, even (especially?) the boring time-consuming bits. Whatever you'll end up doing later in Real Life, like it or not, there will always be similar boring tasks you'll have to perform if you want to keep your job.
School is a good training ground for that
(I guess that is school's point, after all
)
... by doing all these boring assignment, you'll eventually master[*] the fine art of writing convincing bullshit as fast as possible with minimum effort - definitely a most useful skill in today's so-called information society
[*] (practice makes perfect, ya know)
Also, you might eventually learn how to spell words properly, as a side effect?
(BTW, maybe you'll have noticed SG forums now have a spell-checker? look out for the words underlined with red dots)

Well it's one step up from being taught how to dress yourself and use a phone correctly.
We have nothing like that here (that I know of).
It just seems silly to me. Some things you just learn from life experience but it sounds like this class is trying to cram it all down your throat anyway...at 14. And no one should be dealing with Cheques/Checks at 14.

...no wonder there's a large perception that Americans are a stupid bunch...
I fail to see why you need to be prepaired on how to use Checks and write job applications/CVs at 14.
It'd make more sense if they saved it for your final year before you leave, unless you head off into Higher education <does not know how US school system works>
Here, when I was about to finish Sixth form (16-18) we got the choice of applying to Uni and getting help with the paperwork or getting tips for jobseekers. That was about it.
We certainly didn't have to learn how to sew or write out a cheque.

we just go k-12 then possibly college! I want to be a ame designer, not only do they make a lot of money but the profession is just amazing, I mean I have so many good ideas, im very creative!
Your pain and sorrow you feel every once in a while, that is what fuels me, your pain is what keeps me alive, and I feel just fine!!!!!!!!!!!!! "BE SORROWFULL"
Yeah, everyone these days is some sort of 'very creative person' or some sort of artist.
Designer work is usually not creative driven to the extent you'd like. Say you were a character designer, you'd probably get given some sort of constrictive brief that you have to adhere to, all sorts of possible designs, people high up telling you it's rubbish and to do it all again.
You really have to climb the corporate ladder before your creativity really gets into gear.
Also - one thing I'd point out. Don't go trying to get a job that matches your hobby because you think it'd be awesome. Work is still work at the end of the day.
...some needless advice from me passed down from a guy who's heading up a portion of Free Radical

A game designer? make a lot of money?Whisp wrote:we just go k-12 then possibly college! I want to be a ame designer, not only do they make a lot of money but the profession is just amazing, I mean I have so many good ideas, im very creative!
Erm, sorry. Don't want to burst your bubble, but jobs in the game industry mostly mean such an insanely intense amount of work they don't even have time to play games anymore. That, and it doesn't pay that well, seriously. And you start really low in the hierarchy, being given all the crappiest tasks to perform at first (like, being given insufficient resources and being asked to create a crappy game for a crappy platform), etc.
Also, almost all kids these days want to work for the entertainment industry, but obviously there won't be jobs for everyone...
Yet, creativity is nice (even though creative ideas doesn't necessarily always mean good ideas, far from it...). A nice skill to develop, IMO.
Also, even though you'll most probably eventually won't end up working as a game designer in real life, it's good for teens to have dreams/projects/motivation
If you're really serious about this, I'd suggest you'd start designing games as a hobby right now. Dreams and ideas are nice, but actual work is the only way to get things done. Also, getting some early XP might help you decide if this is really what you want to do with your life...
You can become a games tester without a degree, tbh.yuka wrote:I'd be happy just being a Q and A tester as long as I was somewhere and could start moving upwards.
Problem is... games testers typically become - tada! - senior games testers. It is frickin' hard to get a break into games design.
And to echo Alice, it is shittily payed and has lousy hours unless/until you become immensely successful. It pays the bills much better to build databases for banks, etc., tbh.
mhm, I know its hard work, i didnt ever expect that ide breeze through college and poof id be creating a game, I want to design storylines for the games and items you get and such. like Crelik, war monsters, that one was a cheesy little computer print off,poster boarded, marker and color penciled type game, you raise battle monsters called creliks, there are several elements to them, earth, wind, fire, water, ice , electricity, psy , toxic , and dark. they all had 100 lv in which after they level up past 100 they die -.-, but i drew some sketches of what some of them looked like. they all started out as little blobs with eyes once youve hatched them from there egg, then depending on its element as you take care of it and feed it certain things it levels up, after so many levels it will change form, lv90 was the last transformation, I threw it all away after my ungreatfull cosins ruined it ( stupid whores) but it was nice and well thought out, ide tell you more but it would take forever, if i had my scanner hooked up i stlill remember some of the shtuff, maby i can do somthing on the paint program, ill be back with ya'll laters.
Your pain and sorrow you feel every once in a while, that is what fuels me, your pain is what keeps me alive, and I feel just fine!!!!!!!!!!!!! "BE SORROWFULL"
