Wow, now that Ladder Theory guy is clearly fucked up in my book

(like most narcissist, seems to lack basic empathy)
Even if one admits the general premise that guys want to fuck the girls they like (although this statement gets really creepy when you realize the girl set includes the mother/sister/daughter set), the basic assumption that ones can't both be friends and have sex (or want to have sex) is plain stupid (or sad. or both).
Friendship is an emotional bond between people who share common interests, understand (and appreciate) each other to some extent, and above all basically care for each other (=> seeing you happy/sad makes me happy/sad, and conversely). Just because they get physically intimate doesn't cancel that bond all of a sudden. The sex part is just another additional layer (which can bring additional problems that can seem to threaten the friendship at times - but also make it more interesting all the same)
Sex without friendship can be fun (and feels less risky, since you don't care that much for the person itself, just for its attractiveness and bed skills) but makes for a rather shallow relationship, IMO.
Anyway, Ruro, if both you and your friend feel like upgrading your relationship to a new level, then go for it ! Mutual respect for (and understanding of) each other's feeling will protect your friendship.
Of course sometimes getting to know someone better leads to some disappointment, but that's a risk to take. And a lesson to learn. Trust and tolerance get's ~~
