I haven’t played too much yet. Midway through chapter three (it’s done in chapters). So far, the story and setting seems a lot more fleshed out.

Jesus for a good while tonight I was the top FFVIIR streamer on Twitch and the absolute cretinous nerds that came in and argued amount themselves. Made classic SG seem tame as hell!
Current opinion seems to be that Tifa is Square pandering to fan service.

So many people came in to day “FYI your gonna be band in a second”. Eventually, I had so many proper viewers than they got yelled at by other people. One person said that this has made him buy a PS4 and the game, so Square should be thankful of streamers

I streamed the game for 3 hours, then quit voluntarily as it was past 11pm and I started with animal crossing at 3.

I'm enjoying it. The world and story are so more fleshed out than the original, it seems almost irrelevant that it may just be Midgar in this game. It's still a full game, and means we have a lot more to look forward to.

I cancelled my preorder after watching some footage from the game. I'll play it eventually but seeing some of the decisions they made completely killed my hype. I was never expecting a 1:1 remake and had no problem with new characters and plot points and so on, but a certain element they added to the game is so absurd and completely unnecessary it's mind boggling. It won't matter to everyone, or maybe even most, and I don't begrudge anyone enjoying the game. But for me it really turned me off. It's a bummer, I was really looking forward to it.

[spoiler]It seems like they're trying to make some kind of commentary on what a remake is and what they owe the fans and so on, but it adds nothing to the story. It's like baking a delicious cake then topping it with a turd. If you want to change things, then change them. You don't need an absurd Kingdom Hearts shitshow to explain why you wanted to rearrange some events. It's unlikely whatever change you wanted to make will be more ridiculous than Hojo being cut off from telling Cloud his actual past by spooky time ghosts dragging him off screen vaudeville style.

Or Cloud being stopped from straight up murdering Reno by the same thing.

Or Barret being killed by Sephiroth and resurrected by a time ghost two seconds later.

Or the Nomura acid trip that is the final battle/ending.[/spoiler]

I'm not mad, just disappointed. Some of it is in the previous post but here's a full summary.

[spoiler]The flying hooded figures you've seen in the trailers are what amounts to time ghosts. Any time a character in the game attempts to do something that wasn't in the original game, spooky time ghosts appear and stop it from happening. For example, at one point Hojo is about to tell Cloud he wasn't actually in SOLDIER, which would be a revelation much earlier than in the original, but time ghosts appear mid sentence and drag him off into the darkness. It looks as stupid as it sounds. If you've ever seen the actual movie Ghost, think of the end when the bad guy is dragged off to hell. In another instance Sephiroth stabs Barret through the chest and kills him, but a time ghost appears and immediately brings him back to life two seconds later.

Sephiroth also appears often and has knowledge of future events, such as killing Aerith and Meteor and so on. He tricks the party into defeating the time ghosts so he can change the future. So it seems he's some sort of post-Advent Children Sephiroth that went back in time or something. Perhaps not, but either way, it's stupid.

Then they have an Advent Children on steroids final battle before Sephiroth 1v1s Cloud in space. Biggs and maybe Wedge live. Zack is shown to survive in an alternate timeline after the time ghosts explode.

Like I said, I was totally fine with adding new plot details, expanding on things, etc. I was actually intrigued when they first revealed the retcon wraiths and we didn't know what they were. Now that it's all out there I don't see how any of that is an improvement over the original and I personally find it incredibly dumb and detracting, but to each their own.[/spoiler]

Fortunately because of the virus situation the return window was extended to April 29th so once I'm done with Bloodborne I'll just take it back.

I'm 6 chapters into the game and am enjoying it a lot so far. It's a totally different game and take on the story, but it's still a good one.
