What will the specs be? What will the price be? Which games released this year are you most looking forward to being "remastered" next year on this new console?
1. Console will be cheaper.
2. Early released games will be cheaper.
3. More good games later.
4. Improves version of console might be released.
5. Less likely to ger some easily broken launch version (e.g. red ring of death stuff).
Advantages of getting itnearlier:
1. Can play the few good launch games earlier.
That's pretty much it. I guess there's also the possibility of a game being hard to get later on but in the digital era that's pretty unlikely.
PS4 game out here November -(2G13)- and I got one on a whim in an "early Black Friday" sale in November -(2G14)-.
Joei and Char both got them at lunch. Joei brought his around to mine at Christmas and I don't think we even plugged it in. Played Char's for Talking Real (we played MGS: Ground Zeroes through on stream the day before it was officially released). That's the only benefit I can think of, getting a console super early, getting ahead of the streaming game. I don't stream any more though.
I'm glad I got a lunch PS3 though. The games at that point were lousy, but it had more UBS ports and more hard drive space than the next model, PLUS it was backwards compatible!

Fuck, I don't want to buy a PS4 if a PS5 is coming out later that year but I don't think I can resist FFVIIR for damn near a year. Y U DO THIS TO ME SNOY
If the PS4 is going to be primarily used for one game, buy second hand or maybe borrow a console from a friend for it. Finish FFVII, then sell the game and rebut if you want to play it again on PS5.
I bought a PS3 the year PS4 was released (I'm not actually sure it was announced yet - at least not the release date - at the time, but not sure it would have mattered) and then got a PS4 in 2G15. Don't really regret it, because I did play a lot of good games on the PS3, but the PS4 is better and a lot of PS3 games were rereleased on PS4, so I maybe could have saved myself some money. I did buy both at less than launch price though.
I don't want a PlayStation at all but I don't know if FFVIIR is coming to PC and if it does it'll probably be delayed a year or more for every episode. So if I have to get one I might as well get the best one. That being said at least this will also allow me to finally play Bloodborne which I'm pretty stoked about.
Regarding the PS5, I read an article today talking about the controller. Other than adding haptic feedback it seems to be pretty much the same as the PS4 controller which is great because that's the first one I actually found to be comfortable. In previous iterations the triggers were terrible, I always bumped my thumbs into each other on the joysticks and the part that rests in your palm made my hands hurt after a while. I've been using the DualShock 4 as my PC gamepad and it's A+ imo. My only complaint is the giant touchpad in the middle is pretty useless.
I've liked every PlayStation controller during its generation. The touchpad on the Dualshock 4 is pretty much the unused/underused gimmick of the console. Most consoles now have one (Six Axis on the PS3, 3D on the 3DS...). A few games use it well, but mostly it's just a large extra button. Best use I've seen of it is Tearaway, but that was an adapted port of a Vita game that used the touchy back of the console (the Vita's own underused gimmick).
They never said when launch would be or announce what would be launch titles. They just said if things were “holiday 2020”, 2021 or 2022. I’m most interested in Stray, but I don’t even know what kinda game it is.
if it ever actually exists. All of what we've seen so far was revealed over a year ago now. Also means a year since Cadence of Hyrule! Hope Nintendo have a surprise like that this year too!

Which holiday is the Horizon Zero Dawn sequel, which will surely be better than botw2, set to release?
