I was talking about FFVIII R and it wasn't about what it should cost. It was a statement of fact.

How about we talk about Link’s Awakening here. It’s very good and I’be decided not to rush it. I think it’s a game I’m going to be replaying a lot on the future. I don’t think that about anything else nowadays (with my limited time and huge backlog).

What’s so great about Link’s Awakening? I played the beginning many times but never got that far, which I may have mentioned on a previous page who cares. I enjoyed stealing from the shop. What makes it so much better than other similar Zelda games for instance?

It was just a bit crazy on top of it, and it is dense AF. In the sense that there's things to do on literally every screen.

Yeah the original was based on a grid where every square was a Game Boy screen and contained items to find, secrets and Easter Eggs. It just seemed to vibrant and rich, especially for a monotone 8-bit game.
I was worried the remake would end up losing most of the charm, but it really hasn't. Though the overworld now scrolls smoothly, everything's like it was was before and feels fresh. The colour and updated music really help brig it to life.
The original Link's Awakening is the single game I can pick that got me into narrative-driven adventure games/RPGs and I'm really reminded how every minute I play this.

I only got up to Chomp. Nah actually I got past that but I can't remember. Which game was the kangaroo in? Is that LA or a different game?

The Oracle games were poor facsimiles of Link's Awakening, which is a game EIGHT years their senior!

Good, because the one with the Kangaroo wasn't good enough to merit all the praise heaped on LA.

That's because it was cobbled together by Capcom, mostly using assets from Link's Awakening. The idea of the Oracles games really excited me when the first came out. New games just like one of my favourite games. On playing, you could tell that the vision and talent wasn't there though. It really was a tfird party developer's attempt at a couple of lowkey, late console life cycle Zelda games. The unique gimmick of each game was mostly annoying as well.

I only played Oracle of Seasons. It wasnt bad but it's definitely not in Awakening's league. I frigging love that game.

In comparison, it seems like a fan game rather than an official entry in the series.

Neil gave me the Japanese ROMs of both on a GBC flash cart to play on the plane to Canada the first time I ever went. I remember being very excited, then a little disappointed that despite the distinct gimmicks of these titles, they were pretty bland. I ended up going back to Mario Tennis, which is actually a better RPG!
I did buy them at a bit of a discount when they eventually came out in the UK though.

I played oracle of ages on my GBA for a bit and it didn't hook me as much. I remember giving up on it but i don't recall why.

I remember there being some frustration sections. Probably puzzles that overstepped the line between challenging and infuriating.

This thread is more offtopic than politics in LPTPW, which shouldn't really be offtopic anyway, because hey, a win's a win.

You know it got cloudy like it was about to rain but then it didn't and that made me sad.

Just finished this. Great remake that captures the same magical feeling as the original.
Moving straight on to FFVIII Remastered sure shows that one up! :heh
