Seed Rank A trophy doesn't come up whenI reach SeeD Rank A. First I thought maybe I had to wait to be paid at that rank. I've been paid at least twice at that rank. No trophy.
Well I got the trophy after getting demoted and then getting back up to rank A but I think there must be a bug related to thus trophy. Either it was because I got this rank at the same time as being paid the first time (which gives another trophy) or possibly related to the way I ranked up the first time (ostensibly by battling up from rabk 29). Or the bug just prevents you from getting it the first time yoy reach rank A period. I don't know what, but thre's some bug.

Probably not that. I got to 29 by spamming tests, but I ranked up to A from there by fighting battles. The time I earned the trophy I got up to A by taking a test, so seems like the tests work fine. It's possible though it wasn't the way I got up to rank A, but the fact that I got to it the same time I got my first payment. Maybe the game doesn't like you earning two trophies at once, but it's also possible that if you battle a rank up it doesn't work for the trophy. I'll note that I also got the rank up for the train mission, but I was still rank A at the time, so it didn't do anything and didn't earn me the trophy. Probably couldn't have gotten the trophy without dropping a rank and getting back up to A at that point (to be fair I didn't try taking a test when I was already at rank A, maybe that also would have worked).

How could it have been analog on the PS1? The controllers didn't even have analog sticks. I agree with Asaroth. I think it's the same. There were always some annoying issues with getting to go exactly where you wanted, especially when trying to face certain areas to inspect them.

I tried looking into it but can find no proof one way or the other.
It does seem to be leaning in Ward's favor.
I found someone saying everyone else was being an idiot and it was 8 way in original release. So short of sticking it in myself I dont know what to think.
As for analog I know some ps1 had it because of games like Threads of Fate.
Also Golbez the ps1 launched without analog but eventually released the dualshocks and ps2 just came standard

The Dual Shock controller had been released and become standard on the PS1 before the release of FFVIII.Lord Golbez wrote:How could it have been analog on the PS1? The controllers didn't even have analog sticks.
I still have the original. It absolutely has analog support. So did FFIX which was also broken for the re-release.Asaroth Larot wrote:I tried looking into it but can find no proof one way or the other.

Because this "remaster" is just another recycle of the 20 year old PC port which didn't have analog support because it was made for keyboards. All they did was swap some of the 3D models and add the turbo options.Lord Golbez wrote:Well, that's dumb. Why would they take away something like that when it's something most games have now anyway?
I made a video of gameplay and it has lots of issues.
https://youtu.be/6mjIXKClb-k
Notice the npcs at 6:41. Some are blurry, others aren't.
At 14:51 there's AWFUL slowdown. That screen has always had frame rate issues but it was NEVER THAT BAD. It continues when they get to Ifrit.
At like 27:20 Cid is talking and is clear and has a nice model. After that he's a pixelated mess. What the fuck. Also it got choppy there for some reason?
Considering FFVIII is, or at one point time (haven't played it since 2009) was my favorite FF, this is all kind of disappointing.

Well it’s new to me. It didn’t happen in the previous steam version and considering this is a “remaster” I expected better. I feel ripped off.Asaroth Larot wrote:He switches to being painted on the background. Im enjoying it...but Id enjoy it more if the map got the same treatment as the characters.
The fact that it doesnt just makes no fucking sense.
At the end of this video you can see that yes Cid does revert to painted on even back then.

and here is one that says it's Steam 2013. Same deal. Painted on Cid.

How? There are so many places the game slows you down with ridiculous slow character movements in getting on off ladders and shit, not to mention the sprinkling of FMVs throughout. They must find some way to skip the FMVs or something I bet. 7 is pretty easy to buy with the 3x speed but 7 at normal speed seems difficult to imagine. Like I'm not imagining any grinding or unnecessary battles. Literally just walking through the game and doing everything scripted seems like it would take longer.Asaroth Larot wrote:Nah I buy it. I skipped around a bit and it's not that far fetched. He just skips all the dialogue, makes a b line straight for everything, breaks the junction system, then does little time savers here and there like always running during boss battles to skip some animations.

I didn't realize that running to skip animations was something you could do.
It's in French though. Totally suspect.
Notably, doesn't count the ending. I guess beating the final boss is the agreed upon cut off point, but the ending would tack on a good bit of time there.

My misreading of your post was so hilarious I wanted to share it with everyone else. If I were a photoshop expert I would have replied with a doctored achievement screen and it would have been awesome.Damien wrote:You got my sentence off there. Does she even have those marks when the helmets off at the end?
I always wondered what the deal with that weird visor is when Rinoa comes to see her. Is that some kind of manifestation of Junction Machine Ellone or just some snazzy helmet feature?

Picked up FFVIII Remaster after finishing Link's Awakening and it sure looked shitty at first. Quickly got used to the dodgy backgrounds (though not the janky controls). Played the first couple of hours (that I've played before probably over 10 times) sped up, but have gradually started playing it at normal speed. At the point just after the train heist now. I think that's as far as I got the last time I played the game (on PS3/PSP).
Finally seeing past the disjointed graphics and remembering why I used to consider this as one of my favourite games. Drawing and the Junction system just don't annoy me once I'm used to it. I played this game though in Japanese, so it can't be that complicated.
