This is really interesting, and it actually made me hear it as Laurel for the first time (after I had the slider all the way to Laurel and slowly brought it back up to the centre):

I had to do the same on the Yanny side to start hearing it as Yanny again.

Just once recently, because you guys kept commenting in an old blog entry I made that I should do an SG Day blog.Calbrena wrote:Wait, have you actually been updating yours recently? I forgot those even existed.Lord Golbez wrote:Like blogs! That's a cool new feature.Damien wrote:With all these polls recently, anyone would think we’d only just added the option to make them!
So when I slide it all to to Yanny, I could hear it say Yanny, and then sliding it back I could kind of hear it most of the way to the middle except more and more it just sounds like "Yaee." Then in the middle it sounded like Laurel again and continued to sound like Laurel until I got one away from all the way Yanny. Now I notice Laurel even sliding back from Yanny more. I can hear the Yanny in it somewhat but it really sounds more like just interference. THe Laurel is stronger for me unless it basically isn't in it at all. Shit now I'm even hearing Laurel at all the way Yanny. WTF?!smeared ink wrote:This is really interesting, and it actually made me hear it as Laurel for the first time (after I had the slider all the way to Laurel and slowly brought it back up to the centre):

It would be interesting if someone actually used this track to try and figure which one people tend to hear depending on the language(s) they speak.smeared ink wrote:This is really interesting, and it actually made me hear it as Laurel for the first time (after I had the slider all the way to Laurel and slowly brought it back up to the centre):

I remember back in like 2001 studying how frequency is the main reason why some people are good at learning foreign languages (eg Swedes) while others suck.

This one is worth checking out.

The words are “brainstorm” and “green needle”. It’s similar, except I really do hear whichever one I choose to hear, despite the fact they seem to sound pretty different. (Of course, you can also hear “greenstorm”.)

I can only hear "needle." Definitely not "storm." Whether the first word I hear is "green" is harder to tell for me. Sounds like it could be "brain" or even "gray." I'd actually say it sounds most like "gray" to me and other words are product of suggestion from knowing what I'm supposed to hear.
