This is a thread in which to marvel at ourselves and theorize as to why all 5 or 6 of us are posting so much. It's great, but it's not totally clear what happened after all these years.

Plausible theories
- We have an increased need to distract ourselves from the increasingly garbage world of 2017 (still, 2016 sucked too... didn't it?)
- We're collectively entering into an early mid-life crisis
- The 2G15 banner reminds us of better times
- We just happened to reach some kind of critical point where posts updated frequently enough to make returning many times per day rewarding, which is self-fueling

Esoteric theories
- One of us Groundhog Dayed at some point and spent that time setting in motion a complex yet subtle plan to increase forum activity when they should have been figuring out how to stop Trump
- Ghosts

Any or all.

Ok, I'm the one who Groundhog Dayed.

Apart from that, I believe the fact that I'm in North America rather than Asia might change things slightly, as now I'm in the "right" time zone, especially being on the east coast. Sure, I moved there in late 2015, but I was kinda busy until recently, and didn't have that much time for foruming.

I believe another reason may be the fact that we all know social media suck, and forums are superior, hence going back to good old habits.

The times are always ending.

It seems to be something of a synergistic confluence of posting and togetherness, largely fueled by the fact that we're at 5-6 regularly active members these days (with more drop-ins than usual) as opposed to 3-4 as we were back in the before time.

It's true, but the question that remains to be seen is will 5-6 regulars with more frequent drop-ins be enough activity to draw even more regulars in followed by more drop-ins? One thing I find pretty great is how much activity we've been having outside of the last person to post wins thread. We've got several other active topics as opposed to the 0-2 other active topics we've had in previous years. Enough active threads for Damien to always be able to complain there's another thread for this topic or that topic.

Indeed. Maybe I can get up to my old average of ~50 posts per day.

I have been posting more for two reasons.

1. I don't get out much since moving to LA since I don't know anyone.

2. I miss this forum and everyone who was part of it. I think I was one of the younger people on here back in the day (I discovered it when I was 12 or 13 I think) and as a kid who didn't have many friends IRL, the forum meant a lot to me.

I think the whole reason behind the activity may be as subtle as a single member deciding to post more often. Getting the katamari rolling into a perpetual flurry of activity from the rest of the members. This single member is somebody other than myself. Not sure who, but I think that's what started the extra buzz on SG.

If that's the case, it's got to be either Fei or Calbrena. The RDM and I already post pretty much as often as there's anything to respond to (especially the RDM).

It could be partly me (I certainly have been posting more), but I feel like I post more because there's more going on here. It's a confusing chicken and egg scenario.

Cid's point, which is essentially nostalgia, supports the collective midlife crisis theory. Why did we suddenly become nostalgic 6 weeks ago!

Because we all got old six weeks ago.

And also because the RDM forwarded his old email address to his phone, and now he knows when there are replies.

I think it's a collective effort, we've both created new threads in the last few weeks, which is something that doesn't happen very often on SG.

Cid's point about moving to a new city certainly matters too. Even if you've been in Montréal for a while, and I've been in NYC for over a year, we probably don't have as many local "real life" friends as we did in other places. All my friends are in uptown Manhattan, and I'm too lazy to go all the way there on a regular basis, considering it takes over an hour.

@Cid, how old are you now? I never realised you were younger than the rest of us.

Depends on the hour. Many hours go by with no emails.

And he has rules that filter these things down to their core essence.

I just turned 30 last October.

@Cid, yeah, I know what you mean. When moving to a new city, it always takes some time to adjust to it.

I have a friend in SoCal who's originally from NJ and he even experienced some mild culture shock moving there. Sure, it's still the same country, but people have different habits, a different lifestyle, etc. I don't know what are the exact differences between LA and Phoenix, but I bet there's also a gap big enough to make the move somewhat unsettling.

Well as far as the people and environment go I love it. LA is way more my scene than Phoenix and in that regard the transition has been easy. The issue is that it's difficult for me to get out and make new friends here. Anxiety issues make it hard for me to go to things alone, plus the city is so vast with some much to do I don't know where to even go. I'm fun around people I know but I've never been the type to be able to go up to strangers and be like HAY. How I even have friends to begin with is a miracle. lol

Aww

The thing is, I think it's actually true for many adults. Most people meet friends in college, or around that time, and after that it's much harder to meet people when moving to a new place. After a certain age, people tend to socialise through either their work relationships, or their kids. So yeah, don't blame yourself too much, it's mostly a "normal" thing. I guess only really extroverted people find it easy to get out there and make tons of new "friends" in a short amount of time. Extroverts, and narcissists.
