I'm just glad Sony's proactive about our security.

If I wanted to run linux, I'd build a computer myself, out of parts that were tested by people with more time, money and patience than I, and use that.

Oh, wait... I'm doing that RIGHT NOW :O

Well I'm sure it's not that frequently used in the first place, but at least terrists won't be able to use PS3s to control WMD rockets and blow the world up. Sony really cares about the security of our families and that's what matters the most.

On of the things I quite liked about the ps3 when it first came out was it's non-asshole way of treating its consumers.

Firtmost, no non-standard connections or peripherals. You didn't have to buy a sony branded miniUSB cable, or sony branded memory cards, and you could use any HDMI cable, and it didn't have to have a weird connector to make it fit into the system.

As a comparison, look at the xbox official memory card, their wifi card, and the charging cable packs. By the time you add all that shit up it ended up costing more than the ps3 when it launched.

Plus, with the other OS option it let people who wanted to have an emulator and whatnot access those features on their PS3 without needing to hack it; therefore it kept a lot of the hackers from giving it a massive effort.

It seems the most obvious lesson that should be learned is that the more you lock shit down, the more people will fuck with you.
