So, this arrived on my doormat today.
I wrote some shit about it for something so I thought I'd share it here and see what others think of it.
Paper Mario 2 - The Thousand Year Door, the game that has pretty much been my most anticipated since I heard it announced then saw that it looked like it's N64 prequel, only better!
Short of looking at some nice screenshots, I haven't actually read anything about this game.
It's predecessor (along with the lolsome Kirby 64) kept me sane for a few weeks in Hull in the Spring of 2003 and I also went into that blind... and enjoyed it a lot.
All in all, Paper Mario still ranks as my favourite Mario RPG and one of my favourite games of all time.
I actually started reading the OFFICIAL REVIEW in Nintendo Magazine (which again I'd been tricked into buying by a sparkly exclusive free gift) the other day.
It started by explaining how much they hate RPGs and how much they love Mario and then went on to explain what all the buttons do.
I stopped reading there, about 7 pages before they gave the final score, the review was just going to annoy me and spoil some of the game (though probably only the first 2 hours, I doubt they play any more of the games they review).
I've finished the Prologue and am a fair way into chapter one.
First thoughts, amazing.
It takes everything that made the N64 game so fun and gripping and builds on it.
Anyone who's played any mario RPG should feel at home with this game.
The graphics are very, very pretty in the same way Yoshi's Island was back in it's day (and arguably still to this day).
Where as before the camera wouldn't move much, the Gamecube hardware allows for frequent dynamic angles, scaling and tons of wafter-thin sprites moving around on screen at once.
The scenery can also be interacted with to a greater degree.
In some areas, finding secret pipes warps you to the distant background where you can search for more special items... and it all looks just like one flat 2D picture.
The "paper" idea has also been expanded on with ! blocks being used to literally peel away layers to reveal doors, bridges and flights of stairs.
Mario can also turn himself into a paper plane to fly over gaps which isn't nearly as akward and annoying as I expected it to be.
I can see myself playing this game to the end quite quickly
There you have it, me go play now :frank _________________

I would get this if there weren't like 10000 other good games to play this fall. :< _________________

It's actaully a very challenging and fun game
Whoa! 2 posts in the most unpopular thread in Game Discussion yet
I think maybe it was due to the spelling mistake, people didn't know this was a thread about Paper Mario 2 - The Thousand Year Door _________________

Yeah. It's like a whole little game plot on it's own
My least favourite chapter so far was chapter 2 as the puzzles were annoying (the ones with those little Pikmin things, whatever they're called).
I have 1 crystal star left to get then I'm onto GTA and the 36839381109357 games that come out next month that I wan't to play _________________

I've been taking it slow, and as me and the roomie just picked up a cube (it was cheap) with Prime, Wind Waker, PM2, Super Monkey Ball 2, and Soul Calibur 2. All games are getting equal playing time.
Do you know if there's any point to going through the matches again? Oh, I wish I'd known this previously too... but when you head into the lobby, and there's the whole crapload of toads out there admiring you or Rawk, you can hammer them to death |

I haven't gone through the matches again but I doubt there won't be a prize at the end.
I've just finished the game so I'll be going back and finding the little hidden things and doing stuff like that and the pit of 100 perils now
That game gets 5Gs over all <3 _________________

So strange this has never had a port. They could have at least corrected the title! |

There hasn’t been a Paper Mario I’ve wanted to play since this one. _________________

Sticker Star was surprisingly good but most people didn’t give it the time of day. I didn’t buy the latest one after Colour Splash just annoyed me.
There hasn’t been a true Paper Mario RPG since this one but that’s because Nintendo want Mario & Luigi to be the sole RPG series. |

I really liked this game. So disappointed that the shitty offbrand controller on my Gamestop refurbished Gamecube gave out after only completing Ocarina and most of this game. Should have played Thousand Year Door first. Ocarina wasn't worth it. _________________ The TBB offers you tea and biscuits. |

I honestly remember next to nothing about this game or writing this thread/threads like this on SG...
Considering streaming this game but Char borrowed my Freeloader disc in 2G12 and lost it |

The fact that there was a typo in the title shows that I didn't even proofread it at the time |
