Iím going to have to carefully calculate how many people in the vicinity might want a drink before deciding to offer.

If 20 people pile on, the later end of that are just assholes.

Does it work like rounds of beers and you automatically have to reciprocate if someone offers you a cup one day?

I thought that normally youíre supposed to escalate and offer something bigger/better/more expensive?
Like if youíre being offered Lipton, you retaliate with PG tips, or something.

I hadnít realized that when working there because in Stamford we just all queued up at the coffee/tea machine in the kitchen. Probably because thatís a school and orderly queuing was expected.

Then in London people in schools didnít really offer me anything (as far as I can remember), then when I was in peopleís house I couldnít really offer them tea, they were the ones supposed to do that.

I now realize I never experienced working in a proper office environment in the UK and other places Iíve worked to donít really operate like that.

Making drinks for the whole team rather than just yourself is certainly more of a standard thing up here than in London.

I see.

Iím trying to think of what the French equivalent might be but itís more likely to be clearing the table/washing empty cups for everyone, rather than having to offer cuppas up front. That or bringing random food to share with the whole office. I guess also making a full pot of coffee rather than a single cup, although thatís only common sense really.
