Even the people in charge of it wouldn't be able to tell you. Might as well spin a roulette wheel.

We need “Brexit: 28 days later”, then 28 weeks and 28 months later. That should make a good post-apocalyptic trilogy, or series if the country survives long enough to get 28 years later, 28 decades later and 28 centuries later.

Day of the Triffids, known by many as a 60s sci-fi B movie (I haven’t seen it but it looks quite bad and not much like the book), is also a flipping fantastic 50s sci-fi novel by John Wyndham. Its opening was straight up used by 28 Days Later and its broader premise has also been borrowed.

First, there is a conceit: by some means not entirely known, but probably bioengineering, walking sentient plants known as triffids now exist in the world. They’re somewhat dangerous (they can attack with a sort of whipping tonguelike thing), but pretty easily controlled, and can be harvested for a useful oil. Our main character happens to be a triffid expert.

Second, our main character begins the story in hospital with bandages all over his face. If I remember correctly, he is recovering from a triffid-related wound. During his hospital stay there is a magnificent meteor shower that everyone is amazed by and he’s kind of bummed his face is wrapped in bandages.

But it turns out everyone who saw the meteor shower (nearly everyone) goes blind! This sets up a story where nearly everybody has gone blind, but the main guy has sight. This premise alone is the main driving story and explored very well.

BUT our main character is also a triffid expert and occasionally mentions that people ought to be concerned about triffids now that they’re all blind. And everyone’s like “dude shut up about triffids we have real problems here”.

And slowly the triffids become a problem.

READ IT IT’S GREAT.

That sounds interesting. I already have a long reading list but it seems worth adding. How many pages is it? Just so I can see if I should bump it up my list, in case it’s a very quick read.

I don’t remember how many pages it is, but as I recall it’s fairly short.

As for the Brexit vote, I assume it will go badly as all Brexit votes do.

Could be either. It's good from the "Brexit may still not happen" point of view but bad from the "worst possible outcome still on table" point of view.

And meanwhile, all the poor government workers who mostly voted remain themselves are furiously working to attempt to create plans and policies for the possibility of a no-deal Brexit.

I think the time travel aspect of this idea is more likely than this all being sorted in 2 weeks.

Anybody heard the PM's speech on the delay of Brexit?
I was kinda' hoping that she'd resign at the end (or at least call a General Election). Good news to take from it is that it sounds like no Brexit is still an option teatime

She just stated the obvious in a very middle of the road way. Still spouting this "will of the people" shit, even though nobody who voted leave is getting what they actually voted for (be it £350 million a week for the NHS or "pakkis going home"). The bigger thing to do right now would to get enough of an extension to let parliament decide on a deal, then put the details of that deal down to a IN/OUT vote.

Not if you behead them all first!

EDIT: Beheading assholes in power does sound cathartic. I can understand how France got a little carried away with it a couple centuries ago.
