Well, I'll admit from the start that I don't really care for the intentionally super-deformed oversized head look of the DS remakes, which I think doesn't really match the appearance or intent of the original sprites. I can still see the DS remakes as a visual improvement over the original FFIII and FFIV though. When it comes to FFVI, I just don't see how it's a visual improvement, unless you're going to give bonus points just for being 3D.

It's been so long since I've seen that, I forget what it means. Hardcore Jaded Old School Lamer? That sounds right. Hard to say if it applies to remakes of old games though. Especially since what I'm really saying is I'd prefer a remake with modern AAA graphics capabilities over intentionally downgraded chibi graphics.

I don’t know why I love those weird chunky DS 3D graphics so much, but I do. They are like the 3D equivalent of good pixel art to me, I think they’re timelessly enjoyable. I really like the Phantom Hourglass graphics too.

Oh and 4 Heroes of Light!! That has some of my favourite graphics ever. I should probably play it past the first 30 minutes or whatever I did when I pirated it.

That explains it then. Isn't phantom hourglass pretty much the same as Wind Waker. I feel like Wind Waker is truly hideous. It was one of the games that gave me a very bad first impression of cel shading. It wasn't until DQ8 that I came around to the idea that cel shading can actually be good (still not my favorite, but after DQVIII, I believe it has its place).

Phantom Hourglass has a similar “Toon Link” design and some repeated enemies and visual effects from Wind Waker, but there’s no way the DS could pull off Wind Waker. I thought Wind Waker was gorgeous and it’s certainly held up better than other 3D games of the era.

Yeah Phantom Hourglass is the same art style as Wind Waker, but different graphics. And I was specifically talking about the weird chunky 3D with unsmoothed lo-res textures you see on DS.

However, Wind Waker is indeed one of the most beautiful games ever made.
