They should make each one an entirely different genre. Racing, FPS, FTP match three puzzle game...

On the reverse side, I just paid £8.99 for the PS4 port of Final Fantasy VII. Probably gonna stream a bit of it during Talking Real on Saturday.

Interestingly, this seems to be the first Game Descushion thread since 2010 that's gone on to a second page.
If anybody wants to see the PS4 port of FFVII btw, I should be playing it on my charity stream tomorrow. www.twitch.tv/TalkingReal
The game has in-built hax!

Sektor 7 was an FFVII reference?

The RDM had no idea.

You're always trying to push us out of the main thread. It's almost like you don't want to reach page 1000.

Also, episodic = garbage shit sack.

No one will care though, because story in Mario games is just window dressing. Any of the episodes would be easily skippable without diminishing the quality of the games you get. The only problem will come when you're paying full game price for a fraction of the levels that would be in a typical Mario game.

Well we still don't have actual details on the price or structure of Final Fantasy VII, so who knows if it'll be a rip-off or not?

I'm cautiously optimistic. The footage of the remake looks great and most PS4 games that look great end up looking like shit in the final product because they have to do a graphical downgrade to fit everything onto a disc. If splitting the game up allows them to remake the full game and keep the visual quality of the trailer, that's fine with me.

Is it the disc that determines visual quality?

Obviously it's not the sole factor but it's an important one. A dual layer Bluray disc holds 50GB of data, which by today's standards isn't very much. Batman: Arkham Knight was 46GB and that's just Batman running around a single city. Imagine trying to fit the entirety of FF7 on there at the quality we saw in the remake trailer. Corners would have to be cut somewhere.

They never had very many sections of Midgar in the original game. They would have to make much more for it to rival the size of the city in Arkham Knight. They probably will make more, but that much? I don't know. Plus, they'll probably do away with the world map....or maybe make it like FFXV, I don't know.

They said they were going to expand Midgar in the remake but even if they didn't, stop and think about how many different areas are in just the first few hours of the game alone. Like really take a minute to think of all the different screens across that whole time and then imagine rebuilding every single one with the expansion and detail seen in the trailer. Also, unlike Arkham Knight, you can reuse few if any assets because each area is totally different visually. Also, removing the world map would only increase the amount of content as you would have to add a shit ton of detailed connecting areas between each spot in the game.

Keep in mind, there are also a lot of interior areas in Arkham Knight too though. I'm not sure what the relative space is, but it's certainly not just the external city areas using up space. I'm sure FF7 as a whole will take up a lot more space, but just the first part? I don't know...

Just use multiple discs for FFVII. It'll be nostalgic.

I agree! It would be great if they made it so massive they used three discs even with dual layer Bluray. It would be crazier if they did that and it was still only the first of multiple parts.

Three disks per episode, three episodes to cover each of the original disks. Twenty-seven blurays! Perfect.

The dungeon and baws are one episode, the overworld content is another, and the ending is an episode unto itself.

Then there's the Advent Children and Dirge of Cerberus episodes....

You need 3 discs for an ending episode after the boss? That's some cinematics.

Twelve hours long.

One of the discs is the original ending, but played backwards so no one notices.

Speaking of Knights of The Round, I've been surprised to see that particular summon/concept make a return in recent Final Fantasy games. Don't wanna outright spoil anything for anybody, so I'll leave that there until somebody decides they want to discuss it

The concept being super crazy long summons that are totally not worth the sheer amount of time they take out of your life?

Nah the literal Knights of the Round.
Final Fantasy XIV: Knights of the Round are the last boss in Heavensward.
Final Fantasy XV: -EXTRA SPOILER ALERT- You collect the powers of dead kings in a ring and in the end scene they all join you and fuck up the bad guy.

Haven't used a serious spoiler tag in a while!

...The more modern of the 2 FF7 Remake threads (the one were we react to and discuss the action game rather than the hypothetical one).
