I guess it was only a matter of time till George W. had an interview where he sounds ultra-moderate by current standards. What fun!

Does it?

In a way it does, in terms of Bannon being a hardcore isolationist. But the attack on Syria seems more like a knee-jerk type reaction than something they'd been planning/fighting about for a while.

So if one posts a reply in this thread, then replies to "Why is SG so super active these days?" the answer to the question appears on the front page of SG.

That's not terribly unlikely really. Unless you all have better genes than I do. That seems to be a pretty common death age at least for men in my family. Also, feel like my job is killing me so I'll probably die at 50. Keep winning for me.

That's not that unusual really. It seems to me that people have the delusion of a 100 year lifespan when that's incredibly rare. Most people die in 70s or 80s.

Most people I know died well into their 80s. If you don't count things like suicides, getting run over by a car, heart attacks and similar things. Sad

You're French. We Americans die younger . Anyway, I definitely have genetics against me. All of my grandparents are dead. 3/4 died before 80. Both grandfathers died pretty young (I think one who died of cancer might have even been in his 60s). I just had an uncle die at 70.

Also, I would consider heart attacks to often be dying of "old age." Sure you can do things to prevent them, but regardless they become more likely as you age, and there's also a genetic component.

But you can't have a heart attack, you're a vegan. That's just science.

My mom died at 55 but then her dad lived to 85 (having survived some ridiculous heart attacks) and her mom is still alive and reasonably well at 92.

I pick the third option.

Is it really genetics though? Couldn't it be related to their lifestyle, or to the lack of proper medical care in the US?

I didn't realise your mom was dead.

My dad nearly died when I was 17, he was 50 then. But he's had a miraculous recovery since then. Anyway, I know it's not something fun to deal with.

Yeah. It's stressful though, because every time I see him, we don't know if it will be the last time or not. But hey, c'est la vie.

Anyway, the "positive" aspect of experiencing this was that it taught me early on that we should really seize the day before it's too late. That, and not waste our life doing a job which may kill us prematurely.

Back on topic, sort of, this scares me:

I am worried (along with plenty of others) that the clown will be booted out, we'll all celebrate, and then the bullshit will carry on under someone whose only improvement is being less of an outright buffoon. And everyone will feel like they've won and get complacent. Sad

Pence is pretty evil in lots of ways. He's not going to push a border wall (or a Muslim ban most likely), but he's terrible on healthcare, women's rights, and LGBTQ issues. The RDM is hoping he's implicated too. And that they're not removed from office until after 2018 elections, so we get President Pelosi instead of Pence.

In the mean time, the mere existence of the investigation should server as a mitigation against Trump's power. Especially with his approval ratings in the toilet.

That's Paul Ryan's dream right there. Trump doesn't actually care about most of his political positions. If you pay attention to what he says when he's hit by a question he's not expecting and hasn't been coached up on, he actually takes vague, liberalish positions. No one should lose their healthcare, there will be no cuts to social security, etc. Then his people walk those statements back, and the next time he's on a microphone he says the opposite because he's learned what he's supposed to want. The guy is basically a mental blank slate what is continuously rewritten with whatever his thinks will make him "win." Conservatives in general, on the other hand, are just straight up evil.

Trump's pretty straight evil too, it's just that his ambitions are pretty narrowly focused on himself. His primary objective though is to increase his own wealth and have his ego stroked and he'll do just about anything with those two aims in mind.
