Hi, you say you're from the east coast originally?
If you ever visit NYC, you should check Barcades, they have some neat retro games, and decent beers. ruroken

Barcades are awesome! We've been to the one in Williamsburg in NYC and the one in Philadelphia we visit several times. Hubby likes good beer and so do I(I guess there's a bit of hipster!), and with the retro games they ARE hella fun!

Sounds like a pretty nice road trip. Which places did you see between Texas and California?
Watching West World recently made me want to go back to Utah/Arizona, especially near Moab and all the national parks in that area. I want to go on an epic road trip too.

Let's see...
I hit all the major cities in Texas, saw the town FNL was based on.
Went to Albuquerque (and hit some major Breaking Bad spots)
Checked out the Four Corners monument, and the Grand Canyon!
Meteor Crater was unsurprisingly disappointing.
Finally went to Vegas as a legal adult.
And LA, Monterey and San Fran in California

Sadly I never got to go far into Utah, but driving Arizona and New Mexico gave a good approximation - it was definitely really cool to see some flat rocky plains in the West!

Also whats stopping you from going on a roadtrip??

Peckham has two arcade bars now
Somebody told me the other day that Peckham has been reported as the most desirable place in London to live
This article may be what they were referring to http://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/peckham-tops-prestigious-list-of-best-places-to-live-in-london-2017-a3493501.html

Well, tbh, I could totally go on one if I went on my own. But I'd rather go with my husband, who couldn't do that at the moment. We're here on his work visa, which means by definition, he has to work. We can't take a long enough break to go on a road trip, not on his current visa anyway. But hopefully we should be able to do that in the future.

Gotcha, that's pretty rough. Maybe take a weekend out and explore the nearby locales that New York State have to offer!

Caribbean sounds like a nice location to explore.

And yes, we're planning to explore NY state a bit more when the weather gets nicer.

What is it like working with your spouse?
I know it's something I never want to do myself (my own parents worked together and made our life terrible in the process), but I can imagine it can have some advantages if done the right way.

On good days its good! We understand each other and are on the same page.

On bad days we can take a few liberties where we'd lash out harder than we would with a colleague because we have higher expectations from each other. But we're both the type to work things out so we always get past that.

I guess the key is to make sure you do work things out.
But how do you manage work/life balance? It must be tricky, especially if more of your socialising becomes "strategic", right?

You forgot to mention that sick-ass Lego Disney castle you have at your office.

Because that shit needs its own bullet point.

A few Square games from the last 10 years have been well worth playing. Not the ones you'd expect though, probably. Do you still like JRPG style games, or no?

right now work life balance is skewed heavily towards work. hahaha.

that's fine, i've had a lot of years of it being skewed more towards life, and sometimes with less than desirable results. at least with this i can feel like i've got more coming in from it.

i think overall i've gotten a lot more pragmatic. if i feel like talking about what i want to talk about i've got my wife, i've got irc, and i've got this. with these platforms i can selectively return attention, share and vent about whatever. when it's activities i want to do i schedule in the time to do the things i want to experience.

over time i feel like i've required less and less need for outside validation. therefore socializing has a diminished return since the attention and sense of acceptance isn't so much a goal anymore. strangely enough, the less i seem to care the more attention seems to come, or i've just gotten more useful.

in short, shit is sorted, don't need anyone to say "good boy", and i find time to do things i like when i can. so when i feel comfortable with where i am and what i'm doing, the work isn't too bad at all.

I haven't seen Logan yet, I should definitely make some free time for that though.

I totally understand your points, sounds like you're doing great! As a recovering workaholic, I would just say, don't forget to take care of yourself. It's easy to forget to slow down when you absolutely love what you do, but eventually you might end up burnt out way quicker than you think.

I still love RPGs in general. I really want to play I Am Setsuna. I've just played Dragon Age Inquisition and Witcher 2 and 3 recently. I tried to play through Mass Effect but got stuck on the first game because it was already so dated, but I'll probably try Andromeda. In the last 10 years, I've definitely replayed Chrono Trigger on DS. Probably still my all time favourite. Also played some FF Tactics on PSP. I've attempted to start CT again on my Android, but can't be fussed to play games on phone.

I haven't played I Am Setsuna yet. I have the feeling it'd disappoint though. Would have bought it if it were a retail game, but I wasn't sure if it would be worth the money as a download.
If you do end up playing it, come back and post a thread. Would be interesting to hear your point of view, considering how long it's been since you've played Square games.

FFVII remake takes the remake of the beloved game fans have been clamoring for over a decade and brings the Kindgom Heartsification of Final Fantasy to it.

Finally, combining the best of classic Squaresoft with the... best of Square Enix?

To me, FFVII died with AC, period. So I haven't given a shit in many many years.

AC was fun if you didn't think about it.

Dirge of Cerberus was even fun, briefly, if you didn't think about it.

AC was terrible and gives you a clue as to how they are going to modify FFVII in the remake. A clue that the modifications will be bad.

It was fun to watch the jumping and kicking. It was not fun to think of it as a story. Perhaps best watched on mute.

Even on mute, you still have to look at those ridiculous Sephiroth wannabes.

I somewhat enjoyed Crisis Core. It got a bit tedious I think, but it was alright.

Which one is Crisis Core? The Zack one? Or is that Before Crisis? Are they even separate things?

Perhaps you could watch Advent Children on a TV with screwed up color balance so the characters didn't resemble FFVII characters too much.
