We did for a bit. But we'd already been in the zoo for hours, and were concerned about finding alcohol to drink. The RDM was only 18 at the time, and thus drinking as much as possible whilst in England was the main priority.

Certainly less so. Drinking isn't nearly as novel now that the RDM can do it legally in the comfort of his own home.

If heavy drinking is a top priority in your thirties, there is a convenient word to describe you. And help available!

You were over there during Eurovision before?

I haven't watched Eurovision in like 10 years+. And before knowing Damien, I'm not sure I had ever seen it either. I must be a rubbish European.

Edit: damn autocorrect Sad

?! Was this one of Damien's Flickr photos ending up being bought by someone again?

I think my sister ended up in a singstar campaign. Being friends with Damien is dangerous!

Nah those were all different pictures

Picture sold: SingStar picture from 2006. Sold to Sony.
Eurovision pictures: On the BBC Eurovision site in 2008. Also a picture of me and Barry on the BBC homepage.
Alice picture: Alice and EmJ playing SingStar in Halloween cosplay in the Official UK PlayStation Magazine in 2008.

There were a bunch of others around there as well. A photo of myself and Annabel playing SingStar was used in PS Home and sent around in a "HAPPY EASTER" email to every registered European PlayStation member in 2009

We're trying to figure out travel plans. Juggling with the idea of France/Germany, or Scotland, or the American southwest. Also possibly in addition, New York City or the east coast of Canada, as we aren't far but haven't been to either. We didn't have a lot of spendin' money the past few years.

We’ve now been to New York City (last fall) and are flying to Germany tomorrow. Not too bad!

The RDM can't afford to go anywhere because he's buying solar power.

Booking a return flight to Norway this month costs half the price of booking a return train to London 3 months prior to the travel date, using a special offer. Going to Norway for a concert and staying with friends.

Seriously though. 10 years ago I went to Milan for £5 each way. You can't get a pint of beer for that in most London pubs now...

According to the cities thread, you didn’t care for Milan, so I guess it’s good it was cheap.

Yeah we picked it by roulette (from all the £10 return locations). I paid something like €18 for a beer at a pizza place there though.

That sounds cool. How much is it costing you?

I've starting exploring upstate a little bit more recently, although it will be easier to do once we actually have a car.

So far, I like NY, not really interested in exploring any further yet. I do want to visit Montréal and Québec City at some point though.

I also agree Boston is pretty nice. Vermont too.

Uh...something like $13,000. The RDM has forgotten the exact number because it was so traumatic. He found a contractor he really likes to do the work...hopefully that relationship doesn't end up collapsing like it did with the roofers.

Upstate has lots of cool places. Many of them are the woods. The RDM likes the woods.

That sounds like it would take a long time to recover on the electric bill. If ever. Theoretically you could, but I wonder what the chances are ot will be eaten up by maintenance and repair.

I like the woods too. I like Saratoga spring water as well, and the fact that one of my friends has just invited me to visit her in the Catskills over the summer.

What happened with the roofers? I think I missed that part.

$13k doesn't seem that bad. How much electricity is it going to generate? How much value is it going to add to your house, if any?

Oh....I hadn't thought about added home value. You could probably make a lot of the money back there if you sell your house.

I’ve been to the following countries:

Canada. East and west coast. Great Lakes. Still missing: prairies, Rockies and the north.
USA: California and Florida and Hawaii
Cuba: to vegetate on a beach for a week once.
Mexico: ditto
France, Spain, and Italy: ❤️
Armenia: ❤️ To meet work friends
Australia: Melbourne, Sydney and the Great Barrier Reef coast.
New Zealand: ❤️ (even if they hate french people there)

Plan to go: to Europe with my kids and to Disney world with them.

I think it’s because The french (as in France) did a terror attack there:

TBH most people were friendly. But some that realized that I was also speaking french became instant assholes.
