I just saw episode 7 and I'm going to assume that was the plot twist. I also saw it moments before it happened.

When he said "what door" I guessed it. Of course, I also assumed there would be a plot twist like that in the show, but I didn't give terribly much thought to who it would be.

Yeah, that's the one. I haven't actually seen episode 8 yet then, I just miscounted if that was actually 7. Anyway, 3 or 4 episodes ago I said "what if..." about that. But as you said, that key quote was a massive giveaway, considering what had been said just a few seconds earlier.

Been busy this week so couldn't watch anymore episodes, hopefully I'll get the chance to watch the last few ones during the weekend.

In retrospect, it's kind of obvious. They went out the their way to establish his, and only his, outside story. The RDM is ashamed of himself for not seeing it a mile away. He's getting sloppy in his old age.

This is exactly what I found suspicious.
But who says it's a unique case? What happened there and then clearly points out that it isn't.

Oh. I just watched episode 8, does that mean I'm ahead instead of behind now?

Yeah, that's kind of what I mean by saying I hadn't given much though as to who, because if I had given it much thought I probably would have realized he was the only reasonable choice. I mean I had given brief consideration to the possibility that Ford was one created by Arnold, but that seems a much less likely scenario

Oh those aren't episode 8 spoilers btw, I'm still talking about 7.

Episode 10 seems pretty cray-cray so far.

The RDM still has like half an hour left. The wife fell asleep.

There was a great Maeve scene in that episode (or was that 8).

True, but I was thinking of a particular scene during which Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake is playing. Ah. Turns out that was episode 8. Well, I'm sure there were also great Maeve scenes in episode 9.

What did you think of all the various twists/spoilers of episode 10? I thought some were predictable, but some were pretty unexpected for me.

Well, for some of them, I definitely didn't see them coming.
But now I think I might have to watch some of the previous episodes again, because there seem to be some plot holes or inconsistencies, but that might just be me not paying attention properly.

Edit: clarifying these are major episode 10 spoilers.

Anyway it's funny we were discussing Groundhog Day the other day, since William is in a similar situation.

One of the things I find confusing is that some of these hosts are supposed to have been following their current narrative for a fairly short time (e.g. Maeve), yet I thought they were already in their current role in scenes about when Logan and William first visited the park? I guess I didn't pay attention properly and will need to watch the first few episodes again.

Now we have to wait until 2018 to get season 2? That's a long wait. Sad

These are episode 10 spoilers to be clear for RDM and others.
Yeah, I felt the same way about the William reveal. I was trying to figure out if there was actual contradiction there or if I was just assuming things went on at the same time. On the one hand, it seemed like a reasonable fix for my running confusion with how what was going on with William synced up with what was going on in the park in general. But yeah, the Maeve plotline in particular I'm not sure about, because he was already old when she was in her earlier character life. I'm like 100% certain there was a scene with William and Clementine early on. I just can't remember for sure if they showed Maeve in those scenes, but if they did, definite plothole. I also found the Wyatt reveal to be a surprise, but what followed was less surprising given that.

I remember the Clementine scene too. It's possible that we were just tricked into thinking Maeve was around as well, so I'll definitely have to rewatch some episodes at some point. But yeah, that scene with Maeve and old William doesn't really add up. I guess they could justify this by "it happened only a year ago so he wouldn't have changed much" though.

I guess there must be answers in like episodes 1/2/3 though. Now I'm also kinda wondering if the photo William lost in episode 10 is the one from episode 1. I suppose they would have been careful about these kind of things anyway.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the photo was the same one that Dolores' father found early on.

Mostly the fact that I had just subscribed to HBO. I had also vaguely heard about the fact it was supposed to be good.

I guess my next series will be an HBO one as well, I'm just not sure what. Not that young pope one though, that looks rubbish.

I'm kinda curious about the original West World film and series now, I guess I should also check those at some point.

@RDM, have you finished watching episode 10 yet?

Some potential plot holes have been bothering me. To the point I might actually rewatch the whole series to check some key scenes. Not sure I have the time for that though.

The RDM finished last night.

He's actually relatively sure that there was no Maeve/William interaction, but there was definitely a William/Clementine one. He "saves" her from being shot.

The RDM thought the whole end reveal (other than Maeve having second thoughts) was pretty telegraphed.

Are you saying you already knew Dolores was Wyatt and that the MIB was William? Or just the end part.

The RDM thought the Man in Black being William was decently well-hidden, but there were hints all over the place. They couldn't stop showing the roof of that freaking church, for instance. And El Lazo was a pretty big hint to the fact the things were happening on different timelines.

Dolores being Wyatt, on the other hand, was something the RDM didn't see coming until a little while before the reveal, similar to the Bernard thing. They hid it pretty well, but it wasn't a terribly impactful revelation. We'd never actually know enough about Wyatt to care about him specifically, and we hadn't been given any reason to think that he was any more a credible threat to actual humans than any other host. So that one was more of a dud than a predictability issue.

Yeah, El Lazo was part of the reason I was confused about the William timeline before the reveal. So, I thought it made some sense, but I hadn't thought about it before.

They're pretty heavy-handed with the "The man in black is someone who has spent a lot of time here" thing. And William happens to have pretty hefty interactions with everyone the Man-in-Black seems super familiar with other than Teddy.

I think you have but I can't be bothered to check page one again.

I did get the fact that the El Lazo thing was on a different timeline, but I kinda assumed it was simply on a different loop which was fairly close to the first one.

Anyway, the main things I'm wondering about right now and which make me want to rewatch some episodes:
-What actually happened to Dolores right before William and Logan found her in the middle of nowhere? How did she end up there?
-How comes she had no problem using a gun then, when in the other more recent timeline they kinda implied it was her episode 1 encounter with the MiB which somehow "triggered" that?

And the main things I'm wondering:
-how many "overlapping" timelines were there, actually? When she sees herself dead in the water, it's probably at least the second time she has been in that particular spot with William, right?

Apart from that, I guess I want to rewatch scenes with Dolores and Arnold. At this point I assume they were all with Arnold, but I'm wondering if some are actually with Bernard? Probably not?

There's also one thing I'm wondering about, but I assume the answer will be in season 2. When Theresa died, who was being 3D printed in that room?

Speaking of season 2, it looks like it will have a resident evil kind of vibe. Except also with samouraïs? East World!

I think Ford said something like he wanted to keep them apart when Bernard and Dolores are together in the last episode. So I would assume that it's always Arnold.
As far as triggering Dolores use of a gun, maybe it triggered the reveries?

Re. what Ford said, yes, this is why I'm assuming that too.

As for the other thing, maybe.

One more thing:
How did she manage to get there all by herself? That place where MiB finds her is in the middle of nowhere.

She's a robot, right? It's not like she's going to starve or dehydrate, I guess (I assume they need maintenance eventually even without being shot, but probably not so soon she can't get there), so she can just walk there, right? I don't know how big the park is supposed to be, but surely it's all walkable even if it takes multiple days.

I guess she could walk, but it still seems like a fairly long walk, since they took a train to get there in the first place. That train journey seemed pretty long. And how would she know in which direction to walk if she had never walked there in the first place? Also, without anyone prompting her to do so, why would she stay out of her loop for so long? Unless Ford prompted her to get there, which makes sense now I think of it. Just like Maeve, this was probably just part of her new storyline.

Yeah, I think the saddest thing for all the robots is that even though Ford is maybe trying to give them freedom, everything that looks like freedom is just his new narrative. However, whether it was Ford or just her memories of Arnold that brought her there, I don't know.

I think that's actually one of the interesting points in West World. In our western societies, we take free will for granted, but is it that simple? How can we assess our own free will and free thinking? I won't bore you all with Descartes and other philosophers, but that's clearly one of the things the series tried to illustrate, imho.

I don't know if season 2 will answer that point, re. memories of Arnold vs purely Ford's own new narrative, but again, since Ford can wipe out or bring back memories as he wishes, I wouldn't be surprised if it was all by design. But I suppose this will remain open ended, to let viewers decide what conclusions they want to reach, based on their own religious/spiritual beliefs?

Guys who are lurking at this thread and haven't watched WW yet, it's time to watch it rly. Otherwise, you're missing out.

Did you see a trailer for season 2 or are you basing it on stuff in the last episode?

I haven't seen any trailer no. Is there one?

As for other stuff, when I say open ended questions, it's because Lost was also pretty open ended. WW is by bad robot productions too, right?

I don't know. I was asking you. That's a discouraging comparison. Lost was a good show, but they ruined it in the end with a bad ending.

Also, that was probably confusing because I was accidentally responding to an older post of yours, not the last one.

Yes, it was confusing. I have no idea which post you were responding to.

Anyway, I agree the ending in Lost was pretty bad. I doubt WW will suffer the same fate though, already the series is completely different, with no crappy fillers, etc. My only comparison was that half of the series is not about the plot, but the underlying philosophical questions that comes with it.

It's probably closer to an Asimov book than to Lost, really.

Speaking of season 2, it looks like it will have a resident evil kind of vibe. Except also with samouraïs? East World!

I was responding to that. I had already responded to that post, but not that part. I have no idea why I thought that was a new post to respond to though. Maybe the page didn't load all the way for me or I just wasn't paying attention.

Yup, I based this assumption on episode 10.
For the samourai part, I'm pretty sure we could also spot that in another episode, in one of Maeve's scenes probably.
