Anybody else played/playing Nier?
I wasn't going to, but I heard good things about the story, and the price dropped from £40 to £15 in a week, so started it tonight.
Not sure what to make of it yet? The graphics and animation are awful (especially the polygon-counts and scenery textures), looking in places like an early to mid era PS2 game.
The battle system is a bit hack-and-slash with echoes of Devil May Cry and the like.
Still, any RPG that has swearing in the attract sequence gets my attention
So far my favourite bit has been killing sheep, then fucking their bloody corpses:
I'll give it a chance anyway... _________________

All signs point to the game being terrible, but for some reason it isn't.
I'm not at all able to place my finger on the source of this unawefulness though. |

Hey. I just noticed. Your custom box art is a 'ps3' game, but it's inside a 360 ugly green case. So which is it? It's very important information. |

Oh God.
I sold my copy of Nier today.
The fishing minigame (that's mandatory at some points) is so badly designed. frustrating, and outright unfun that I found myself swearing loudly at the TV, and punching the controller for possibly the first time since the 16 BIT generation (when I was like a kid). |

| I hear the game is actually pretty solid with the exception of the fishing mini game. |

God. I'm so fucking tired of fishing minigames. They're always annoying at some level (just some are worse than others) and they've appeared in so many games at this point that it feels like they're put in as some sort of obligatory bs more than anything. _________________ The TBB offers you tea and biscuits. |

Mini games, they suck 99% of the time. Let's be thankful for FFVIII's legacy. _________________ I hate Microsoft, I love Sony...

Fishing minigames for fun
I prefer attacking chickens endlessly to see if they will eventually fight back |

Fishing in Zelda, Breath of Fire, etc weren't bad.
In Nier it's so fucking tedious and frustrating, and then when you do manage to pull something in, it's usually the lol comedy not a fucking fish item |

I don't know about Zelda. In BoF3 fishing was still annoying enough, at least for the parts where it was obligatory. Fishing was fine in the first BoF, because you didn't have to do anything. _________________ The TBB offers you tea and biscuits. |
