Okay, the first ep is subbed, so topic time. Obviously, if you haven't seen Seed, you don't belong here, as there will be Seed spoilers abound, I'm sure.
Unorganized ranting about ep 1:
- Does anyone else think that they're pushing it with the deja vu business? Never mind the stuff in the ep (like stealing the Gundams) I mean, I was laughing at the ED because it's basically identical...
- Not sure if I dig Impulse's design yet, but the dual blades = good
- Good to see Cagalli and Athrun, and I hope they won't be taking a backseat to things... Athrun needs to bust out Justice (though I did enjoy his outfit + shades)
- Can anyone remind me as to what Gundam stands for again?
- Seed OPs seem to like to give shit away... Ramius + Bartfeldt? Kira vs. Shinn? woot
- So many characters... first ep of S1 had tons as well, but Destiny is in much more of a hurry, which I think I like - just throwing you into the action. I'm guessing that the pink-haired ZAFT girl is Luminaria because I think she sounded like Maaya... I could be wrong. Someone here who read up on all the character designs could probably name all the major faces in that ep.
- I want the old characters to come back already! (I'm referring to Kira, Lacus, Dearka, Yzak, Miraillia, Ramius, Bartfeldt... whoever else I'm forgetting)
- All in all, I liked it. It met my expectations. Now give me more! |

The new acroynm for Gundam was..
General
Unilateral
Nuclear
Displacement
Assault
Manuever
Or something like that. I know Nuclear and Assualt were in there.
Yeah, Destiny just throws all of this stuff at you really quickly, it was hard for me to keep up watching the raw, so I had my little notebook there to jot down some names quickly I do want to see more of the "old faces"
One thing that is kind of strange though - how can Asuran not be like, a superhero idol? That's something I never really understood when you would see the Gundam pilots "after" their final battles, they aren't always heroes even though they save the world. It's a bit unrealistic for people, I think, not to know who Asuran and Cagalli are. |

I'm not too fond of the Impulse right now. I can understand the other Gundams having transformations, but there is nothing special nor useful about his combination effect, except for the fact he can use a plane.
Oh, and ANN says Lunamaria is voiced by Maaya. _________________ Murphy's Eighth Corollary:

I'll ask again, which groups are subbing this so far? And of these groups, which one(s) do you recomend?
I realize I can answer the first one myself, but I would like to hear some opinions on the second question as I am not very knowledgeable of fan subbing groups. |

Episode 1 was a very good start to Seed Destiny, in my opinion. There was a lot of deja vu and it seems that they are just following a formula of some sort but it was still done very well. I think they just wanted to play around with the direction hence the striking similarities to the first season. You just can't help but laugh at some of them ie. the opening and ending theme animations.
I wasn't really impress with the mech designs when I first saw them on the official website but they actually look a lot better in action. The three special units look good and I like their mobile armor forms. I'm digging Impulse's design even though it's just an upgraded version of the strike and the paint job could be better but wielding two anti-ship swords puts a smile on my face. It's almost as good as Sword Calamity.
The new characters are interesting but I'm really looking foward to the series bringing back the previous characters. I want to know what happened to Dearka and Yzak's Gundams as the opening shows them with Ginn's and I do recall that their Gundams were not that severly damaged after the war. I still can't fathom why they've been keeping Kira's involvment in the series a secret. No images or info on Kira was released prior to the airing of the first episode and all the Newtypes that were featuring Seed Destiny had the words "Find Kira" in them. Anyways, it's just good to know that he'll be making a big comeback. An upgraded Freedom has me smiling but it would be better if they bring back Justice instead of giving Athrun Savior Gudam.

I wish they gave her more lines but at least it was enough for me to figure out that she was Maaya Sakamoto. I really don't think she'll be a Lacus clone even though her voice actress is a really popular singer. What's Lacus doing there if she's not the idol of the show?
I think the character piloting Gaia Gundam is played by Houko Kuwashima (Flay) but she really didn't say a whole lot for me to recognize her. The person playing Shin is Kamui from the X tv series and he did an excellent job in that opening sequence. I already liked his screaming so the fight scenes should come out okay. |

My favorite characters are still Cagalli, Yzak, and Ramius, unless Athrun starts badassing it up (which I'm hoping he does). A Destiny character will need to go a long way in distinguishing him/herself before I can consider them among my favorites, and protagonists among ensemble casts usually have a very high standard to meet for me before I can really grant them any acclaim, and especially in a show like Seed... Shinn will indubitably kick ass, sure, but that's not a fresh trait when it comes to main characters, and it seems much more interesting when supporting characters start owning it up.

Asuran looked pretty cool in his street clothes, I must say.
I obviously am a fan of Rakusu, but I also like Cagalli and I really liked Muu La Fraga. Kira and Asuran are both right behind those three. |

Mwu, Kira, and Bartfeldt are great characters, but they kinda ruined Bartfeldt by (spoilers to be sure): reviving him in the later eps in Seed. _________________ Murphy's Eighth Corollary:

Well I was kind of referring to people who were still alive...
I personally don't see any reason to mark Seed spoilers in here, because you have absolutely no reason to watch Destiny if you haven't had Seed. Or maybe it's just because I feel like snubbing it up. |

lmao green haired pilot
I kinda don't understand something about Kira and Kagari. They say that Kira is a coordinator, the ultimate coordinator, but Kagari is a natural right? How can they be brother and sister? Maybe I missed that, or maybe the subs I had weren't good enough to explain but...but, could someone please explain Kira/Kagari's brother and sister hood along with Kira's birth?

| No, it's not explained, nor is it explained as to how Cagalli was able to go berserk during the final battle. Basically, the whole concept of "seed" was inserted and never expanded upon, almost as if it were a mere gimmick. Here's to hoping that they don't just toss that out the window. |

| It isn't explained, the "Seed"/Berserker thing isn't explained (how does Rakusu do it too?), and neither really was Cruz's drug habit, although maybe Muu did mention something about that when he said about his face.. |

I think some of the loop holes and unexplained things in Seed were actually answered within the various Seed spinoffs like Astray or it was quite possible that it was explained within the manga. Unfortunately, I don't collect the manga so I don't know what's explained and what's not though I do recall hearing something about that.
Does anybody actually follow the Seed spinoffs? I've taken a huge interest in Astray and MSV and have been wondering when the two would air. I know there were some previews here and there but they really don't help other than showing off the mechs. |

The official Gundam Seed website contains links that lead to Astray and MSV websites so I assume there was going to be one. Not to mention that Newtype had several features on Astray and MSV.

I thought Kira and Cagalli's brother/sister relationship was explained in the last episodes. When Rau explained how Kira was made, he said Kira's original mother had twins, but Kira's embryo was taken to an artificial chamber in order to control his growth (i.e. ultimate Coordinator). Cagalli is not a Coordinator because their parents were Naturals. Kira is a first-generation Coordinator. _________________ Murphy's Eighth Corollary:

G ENERATION
U NRESTRICTED

A SSAULT
M MODULE
That's the new OS for Gaia, Abyss, Impulse, Saviour and Chaos.
FREEDOM, JUSTICE and PROVIDENCE's OS had the U for UNSUBDUED and the N for NUCLEAR.
DESTINY PHASE-01 was WAY better than the first episode of SEED. The music, the presentation, the animation and the ending song "Reason", GOD that song is really beautiful and fits PERFECTLY the gundam genre (that song has that "White Reflection" feel to it, but it's even more beautiful, "Reason" is my #1 anime song from now on).
The way they did the intro ---> W O W !!!!!!!!!!! And what the showed in the intro music ----> W O W !!!!!!!!!!!
Before I continue discussing more about DESTINY, if you didn't see the first episode --> GO DOWNLOAD IT ! DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO GET YOUR HANDS ON THE FIRST EPISODE !
Now, I've read many things and rumor about the first episode. Well, here's my say on a couple of things :
Stellar, Auel and Sting : Druggies or...
The more I think about it, no. They aren't druggies. Some say enhanced humans, very possible. What if I say they were Coordinators, maybe even Enhanced Coordinator used as tools for Blue Cosmos.
Oh ! one more thing about our "killer trio", Auel's clothes looked like medieval "Robin Hood". Stellar's dress was ok, I guess. Sting... the pants were fine, the jacket was fine too... BUT WAS THE GIRLY "TOP" REALLY NECESSARY ???
Kira's FREEDOM vs Shinn's FORCE IMPULSE
I was quite surprised by it too when I saw it in the intro. Now here's my theory on it based on what've seen posted on this topic :
Someone said in a Gundam related forum that Shinn joined ZAFT, not to get revenge only, but also power. Even after the treaty of Junius was signed, ZAFT continued to develop newer weapons, you can clearly see that in the first episode. Dullindal even stated the conflicts will never end and that power is always necessary.
My guess, is after this attack made by the Blue Cosmos, ZAFT will blame the EA and counterattack. I imagine the ZAFT counterattack will be big and perhaps even cruel, I think even Shinn will enjoy this cruelty towards the EA, since they are partly responsible for the death of his family. But where cruelty reigns, steps in the "Clyne Faction", the Cosmic Era's symbol of Peace. Guess who's in the Clyne Faction... Kira Yamato. I don't know how the FREEDOM got repaired, I don't know if it's still uses a nuclear fission reactor (but it probably does, because FREEDOM does require a lot of power to fully function). I guess these two will face-off (Kira vs Shinn) when ZAFT plans on attacking a neutral branch of the EA.
Well that was my guess, tell me what you think.

I think there was an image of an upgraded Freedom floating around on the net somewhere. I did save the image but I can't remember where I placed it. I'll post it as soon as I find it.
Edit:

Upon closer inspection it seems more like a concept design for the original freedom. |

Where the hell do you see this?
If you're referring to the opening then you've mistaken Shin as Athrun. |
Kira v. Asuran wouldn't make any sense what so ever at all never. |

| I DO have to profess my slight annoyance at the clone-like looks for the new characters... |

Yeah, I have to admit that the similarities are more than just coincidence but this is Hisashi Hirai after all. Most of his character designs are very similar to each other. |

\I think they just wanted to play around with the direction hence the striking similarities to the first season. You just can't help but laugh at some of them ie. the opening and ending theme animations.

Yeah, I love the new opening/ending. They even had T.M. Revolution do the first opening again. It's probably just the style of the band but the opening song really made think "Gundam Seed". Seed Destiny would have been my first thought had I listened to the song without knowing it was from the series.
Gundam Seed was definately being eclipsed by FMA when it was airing but Destiny is bringing back all the good times I had watching Seed. _________________
