Oh wow I was watching Gankutsuou, and I thought I was going to have a seizure, but made me stay between a wtf and omg, since I've read Count Monte Cristo before and they placed the anime in the future but holy crap... the first episode and its got me wanting to have seizures over and over and over again!

At first I thought the style was a bit annoying but by the 3rd episode it seems natural. I think using that texture for the Counts hair is better then any flat color.

on 4th episode, it's grood. The first episode was impressive but I didn't think the story would be directed in such a interesting way.

I remember reading the book a loooooong long time ago, but I hardly remember the story so this is a definite Check!

for me.

And I'm in love with the opening/ending.

I was thinking they're trying to make him reaaally mysterious or maybe he's an alien, which is very likely. But I think that would have been obvious already if they didn't give him the sharp ears and fangs. I mean the green/blue skin with red/green eyes are already fancy enough.

I would say that they are trying to go for the mysterious approach because in the novel no one really knows who he is, if you have read the book you would know why he is doing what he is doing now, so you would want to know the previous story, go read the novel, reading is good for you.
