Knew it was coming, but didn't know it'd be this soon.
The American Wii store is now home to the translated port of Square's Japanese mobile phone sequel to fan favourite RPG Final Fantasy IV.
Priced at 800 points, it's worth a punt as much as any other title up on the store.
I personally don't know very much about the story etc, so it could go either way.
Hoping it'll be up in Europe by Friday. _________________

I'd put that down to Nintendo's very inflexible Wiiware pricing system.
Hopefully the episodes aren't tiny. |

Ughghg. I just looked it up on Wiki and they've completely ruined Golbez.
Hmm... I should try and badger someone into buying me a Wii so I can hack it and play it, since I have no money to come to London and review it. _________________ monsieur et madame, la parade monstrueuse! |

Never played it.
Undien, you need to review The After for us
Incidentally, the game's out in Europe on Friday. I'll download it then, and see if I can hold any kind of interest in it |

I just finished it. My exact words when I got to the "ending":
What? What the fuck? Eight dollars for THIS?
I may have been a bit more satisfied at the 5 hours of gameplay had it not consisted of mostly battle screen. I don' t think there's a whole lot I can possibly spoil, since the smash-bros-esque "cutscenes" pretty much explain that everyone is roughly 15 years older or something. Oh, Palom's still chasing the ladies! Oh, Edward's still spoony! Oh, Tellah's still dead! Oh, Cecil still has the best hair in the kingdom! Oh, Kain still has jealousy issues! Most of the plot advancement involves Ceodore falling down. I really wish I was making this up.
As for the battle system changes, there's some crap about the "phase of the moon" nerfing or buffing attacks or magic at any given time, but the effects aren't that noticable, especially since you're stuck with melee characters through most of the game. Yeah, supposedly Ceodore can use white magic, but he sucks. I had to put him in the back row with bows for a bit, but after every cutscene he got reset back in front. Blarg. Oh and they ripped off Crono Trigger slightly with "Band" attacks, which basically amount to: oh, 2 characters attack at once, and use MP! BRILLIANT!
All in all, it's probably better than a swift kick to the balls, but as I don't have balls, I really wouldn't know.
Oh, and next episode is 300 points. _________________ "There are two theories to arguing with women. Neither one works." - anonymous |

All of the Strongbad games run about 5 hours, and they're ten bucks.
The idiots at gamefaqs figured out the entire FF4-2 package is going to be $37. |

Well, if anything, it's good for making fun of, so I guess it's entertaining in that way. There was one particular part near the end that they seemed to be implying that (what I think) would be incredibly lame if that's what they intended, which got me even snarkier than usual, hence the bitchy review.
I'll probably end up getting the next part next weekend.

So, I open up iGoogle and the first thing I see is a Lifehacker ad about backing up Wii games. Little bit of reading later, it seems it might actually be possible (and pretty easy) to pirate Wii stuff!
... would require buying a Wii though. _________________ monsieur et madame, la parade monstrueuse! |

Old PSP Hacking or new PSP hacking? Cos it used to be a really difficult long winded process, now there's all sorts of fancy autoruns that download and manage everything for you. _________________ monsieur et madame, la parade monstrueuse! |

Opening up a Wii is as simple as a couple of downloads on a SD card:
http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Bannerbomb
http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Bootmii
Of course, these are largely vectors for Homebrew. I don't know much of anything about overt piracy. Pretty much all I do with it is cheat at Punch-Out. |

I don't know about anything since the Twilight hack
Does this method let you play pirated stuff as well as legit stuff, or does it brick the Wii if you try to go online etc? |

I have no idea, but i'd guess, "probably."

Not that I've seen. I upgraded to 4.0U (hacks didn't get hosed) and wandered around the shop channel, and nothing unusual happened. |

I just finished Rydia's Tale, and I liked it better than the first part. Less bullshit for the sake of bullshit, and just going through the damn dungeons, smacking everything that moves. Also includes a "challenge dungeon" which I didn't play, but I assume that's where the moved the bullshit to.
One minor gripe:
Can ANYONE in the game pilot an airship without running it into the fucking ground? Seriously? Now there's two things lacking in this story: landing pads and therapists. I mean really, does everybody have to climb a fucking mountain to deal with their inner bullshit? And what the fuck is up with there being a different "mysterious person" (no, not the creepy blue haired girl) showing up in every part? First guy was "Totally not Kain", and now there's "Totally not Edge". Bleh. At least there wasn't so much falling down in this one.
.. hmm, turned into a bit of a rant _________________ "There are two theories to arguing with women. Neither one works." - anonymous |

I played more:
Yang's tale: monks are way overpowered. Except when there's a turtle boss. WTF @ turtles in this game, it would not surprise me in the slightest if a turtle was the end boss.
Edge's tale: somehow, 5 ninjas are more balanced than any other party I've played in this game yet. wtf square?
Polom's story: I donno yet, I haven't bought it. _________________ "There are two theories to arguing with women. Neither one works." - anonymous |
