So Square-Enixu are all set to release the Supar Special Anniversary Edition of the CLASSIC NES RPG Final Fantasy.

Over the past few years, there have been many tinkerings and re-releases of this game, each more popular than the last.
Everybody has their Final Fantasy I remake. What's YOURS?

Mine is the PSone version, which I finished twice, and now I'm playing the GBA version too.

Yeah, I know, and it did suck.

However, at the time, it was the only version I was aware of that I could pick up easily in the UK.

However, with Dawn Of Souls, I no longer have that problem anymore.

I object to calling it "Playstation One," but that's what I voted for, because it was a serious improvement over the NES version, which is the only other version I have played. I never completed the NES version though, because some of its issues are inexcusable even for the time period when it was made. I mean, the Playstation version still sucks like an NES era game (honestly, there were better games in that era too, but I won't get into that), but at least it's bearable. I'd also like to point out that FF was the first game of the series I played (though only as a rental, FFIV was the first FF that I owned and completed) so I'm not hating it as some FFIV nub. I just think the series didn't really get good until FFIV. Anyway, yeah, Playstation version.

Actually, the S in PlayStation was capitalised.

The confusing thing was, PlayStation was colloquially referred to as PSX, but then Sony actually went and made something new in Japan called a PSX.

That happened near the time the PSone was released, so the PSone term has become something of a catch-all name for the PlayStation, no matter what it actually was.

It was pretty much a straight port of the Wonderswan one though.

Okay, I did not know all of that, but I still object to "Playstation One" or, more generally, any first installment of a series being retroactively referred to with a "one" in the title even though there's really no "one" there at all. So, I also have a problem with "FFI," although I acknowledge that it can be tricky when you're trying to differentiate comments about the series as a whole from comments about the first game in the series.

I used to comp-lain about people calling the Playstation PSX and PSone back in the day until I was blue in the nob, but after a while I decided I'd fuck it and join 'em.

Well, the only way to get people to understand the difference between there, their, and they're is to keep on correcting them!

...but, it's educational. I mean, there's no real excuse for constantly failing at English, surely?

I don't know if that counts. I mean I'm not sure we should think of World War II as the sequel.... but maybe....
